INFO PACK 2016 - 17 Congratulations on being selected as a participant in MENTOR Richmond. As residents of the Greater Richmond Region, we are privileged to live and work in a community that has some of the best led businesses and organizations in the nation. Our goal is to present a way for you to build relationships with other young professionals while learning from some of our region’s most experienced leaders. This Info Pack will provide everything you need to take full advantage of this unique opportunity, beginning with these key tips. PROGRAM TIPS Four things to keep in mind as you take part in the MENTOR Richmond program: BRING YOUR WHOLE-SELF. The MENTOR Richmond program is a series of conversations between you and many of Richmond’s business leaders. Bring a curious voice and personal point-of-view to each mentor conversation—ask questions, listen, learn, explore and contribute. READ AHEAD. This MENTOR Richmond Info Pack is filled with bios, perspectives, interests, backgrounds, questions and answers. Get to know not only the mentors who will be speaking with you but those young professionals sitting next to you. And don’t stop there. Magazines, newspapers, TV, internet and water cooler conversations are all great places to expand your knowledge of the industries and individuals involved in the MENTOR Richmond program. CREATE TIME. The work week keeps all of us busy. But to get the most possible from the MENTOR Richmond experience, carve out the time and mental space to arrive at these sessions on time, engaged and excited for the conversations about to be had. In addition to the required pre-sessions, we highly encourage the Mentee team to spend time together before each Mentor session. This will allow you to share what questions you have, what you’ve read and what you’re excited to discuss with the presenting mentor. GIVE BACK. As you participate in MENTOR Richmond conversations, it is up to you to share what you’ve learned with your team, your organization and the Greater Richmond community. We hope you will serve as an ambassador, mining the ideas and perspectives that come from this program and carrying them forward to a wider audience. I’M GREAT AT WHAT I DO BECAUSE I'm always thinking about the next step whether it be for my career or the client I'm working on. This allows me to think of potential road blocks and develop a plan to get through them. MY FAVORITE RVA CRAFT BREW IS I love Bold Rock so I am looking forward to trying the ciders at Buskey Cider. MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT RICHMOND IS that there is something for everyone. You can live in the suburbs and be 5 or 10 minutes away from the city life or a day floating down the James River. THE BEST ADVICE I EVER RECEIVED WAS you are your biggest enemy. You can achieve anything you set your mind to as long as you are willing to put in the necessary work. WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE LUNCH WITH AND WHY? My great grandmother. She was born in 1909 which made her 80 years old when I was born. She passed away when she was 101 years old. Although I did get more time than most to spend time with her, there are so many stories I didn't get to hear from her. MY MOST GUILTY PLEASURE IS spending hours on Pinterest and only realizing how much time has gone by from the rumbling of my stomach signaling that it's time to eat again THE MOST PIVOTAL CAREER MOMENT I’VE EXPERIENCED presenting a Form 990 to the board of directors of a non-profit organization client. It really showed me how much I have learned and the value that I can add to I JOINED MENTOR RICHMOND BECAUSE I think it's a great opportunity to build relationships with like-minded young professionals and learn from them and the Mentors who will be sharing their knowledge with us. have a close nit group of young professionals as a network throughout my career while we grow as professionals together. I will also bring back the knowledge I gain to my colleagues and encourage them to apply to the MENTOR Richmond program next year. AT THE END OF THIS PROGRAM I HOPE hopefully be close to being a Senior Manager which is one step closer to my ultimate goal of being a partner at DHG. Also, I will be continuously perfecting a work-life balance looks like with a family of 3 (really forward thinking with this point).
