Carrissa’s Commentary Meet Carrissa. She’s been coming out to AIA for the first time this year and wanted a chance to tell you about her experience. “My story of coming to faith is different than most and started out of a series of events that left me feeling less than supportive of the Christian faith. The summer of 2012 I was fortunate enough to travel to Domini• Pray for our AIA Staff can Republic and Haiti on a scholarship trip Summit meetings in BC touring non-profit organizations. After many encounters with Christians I was less than from Dec.2-6th amused by what I had seen and feeling very uncomfortable. During numerous debates and conversations about what it meant to be a Christian from those who “Truly, truly, I say to were on the trip I decided that if I was going you, whoever hears my to work in developing countries and had this strong opposition to faith, I should at word and believes him least see it first hand for myself. Over the who sent me has eternal past year I have spent countless days life. He does not come reading blogs, listening to sermons, attending bible studies and church on a regular into judgment, but has basis. I met Jessica when I first started passed from death to going to the Meeting House and instantly life.” felt the welcoming and understanding nature she has. When I began to connect more with Jess and spending time learning about her journey John 5:24 through faith, she modeled the teachings of Jesus in such a genuine and positive way; I was drawn to know more. When she started sharing about Athletes in Action, I knew it would be something that I could connect with and understand. Though I am not on a varsity team the depth of topics can be universally applied to life and those in every age and stage in faith. Everyday I grow in my faith and am able to see the ways in which God is working in my life and the lives for people around me. Now being apart of AIA for the past couple months, I have been able to learn so much about what it means to connect God to every part of my life, how to lead bible studies and how to facilitate discussions about faith in sport. Jess and I have had the opportunity to meet once a week and go through a workbook about coming to faith. Through this I have been able to ask questions, understand how God can work in my life, and what it means to truly accept Jesus in life. My story gives me the ability to connect with those just coming to faith or those with questions about what it means to follow and live out the teachings of Jesus. As I continue to work with AIA I know I will learn more and grow deeper in my faith and for that I can’t wait to continue next semester.” Will you celebrate with us that God is powerfully at work on our AIA team as Jessica disciples and builds into girls like Carrissa!
