Programme of practicals from general surgery – surgical propedeutics:
(Possible changes according to actual number of practicals on individual clinics in each
semester and according to actual profil of in – hospital patients on individual clinics)
WINTER semester
1st Practical:
- Acknowledgement with Ist Surgical Departement. organisation of work,…
- Hygienic standard, nosocomial infections, biological samples: blood, urine, stool for
examination
- Operation room (aseptic, septic, ventilation, sterilization, asepsis, antisepsis)
- Surgical instruments, suture, knotting, sewing. The different types of stitches,
stapling mezhods, stitching devices, laparoscopic instruments
- Investigation of surgical patients – taking medical history
2nd Practical:
- Preparation of the surgeon before the operation (washing, dressing, operation
team, practical training)
- Preparation of the surgical field (practical demonstration of the outpatient ward,
assistance)
- Anesthesia (general, intravenous, spinal, local, refrigeration, pre-medication, lumbal
puncture)
- Demonstration of patients - examination of a patient , taking history, surgical
medical record, qualitative indicator, acute medical record
3rd Practical:
- Investigative methods (rectoscopy, ERCP, irrigography, X-ray - gastrography,
ultrasound, CT, angiography, GFS, MRI) in surgery. Acute conditions in surgery,
polytrauma
4th Practical :
- Preoperative preparation of the patient (respiratory system, cardiovascular,
rehabilitation, infusion, transfusion, intravenous and intramuscular injection, enema,
antibiotic prophylaxis, central venous catheters)
- Abdominal examination (detailed description, description of palpable resistance)
- Demonstration of patients (complete investigation and history)
5th Practical :
- Post-operative care of surgical patient (monitoring of BP, P, urinating, hourly urinary
output, insertion of urine catheter, rehabilitation, infusion therapy, transfusion,
measurement of central venous pressure, acid-base balance, evaluation of laboratory
results, drainage, active drainage system, dresing of surgical wounds, flushing )
- Demonstration of patients, independent examination of the patient, writing of
complete surgical medical record, surgical diagnosis and differential diagnosis
SUMMER semester
6th Practical :
- Classification of wounds
- Plastic surgery, suture techniques
- Burns, burn disease
- Infections in surgery, abscess, phlegmona, panaritium, incision
7th Practical :
- Fractures and their classification (conservative treatment, osteosynthesis,
extensions, endoprothesis – joint replacement, external fixation)
- Joints punctions (puncture) (theoretical and practical examples)
- Demonstration of patients – complete investigation of the patient, the proposal of
other investigative procedures
8th Practical :
- Unavoidable - emergent surgical interventions
- Hypovolemic shock, septic shock. Bleeding in surgery
9th Practical :
- Head and chest injuries
10th Practical :
- Dressing techniques (types of dressings and their use, plaster casts, other
immobilisation techniques…)
- Reanimation and resuscitation
- Demonstration of patients - a complete investigation, surgical medical record,
diagnosis, differential diagnosis, proposal of diagnostic process
- Final testing - complete medical records, credit recommendation
