Students lead students on Leadership Day
Students at Evers ES
teamed with Warren HS
to hold a Leadership
Day, complete with a
pep rally.
Students from Warren
HS spoke to their
younger counterparts
about what it means
to be a leader. The
Warren drumline and
cheerleaders also
peppedup the crowd
during a rally, which
concluded with the
singing of the “7 Habits
Cup” song.
Pictured are student leaders from Evers ES (from l-r, front row) Gina Lipscomb,

Gifted and Talented
students at Krueger
ES participated in the
International Hour of
Code. They joined
students from 180
countries in learning “how
to think like a computer
programmer.” With the
help of websites available
for student programmers
like Tynker and Code, the
first through fifth graders
created snowflakes,
made a bird fly, and fed
candy to monsters with a
serious sweet tooth. The
future gamers received a
certificate of completion
for their work.

AROUND THE DISTRICT
A night fit for royalty
NEF looking to register 6,000 participants
as the “Race for Seis” is on!
NEF
RUN/WALK
May 2nd
Similar to the San Antonio Spurs chasing a sixth
championship this year, the Northside Education
Foundation (NEF) has a “Race for Seis” of its own.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 2. The
Foundation’s goal this year is to have 6,000
participants in the NEF 5K Run/Walk & Family
Wellness Fair at SeaWorld, presented by CHRISTUS
Santa Rosa Health System.
In 2013 and 2014, almost 5,000 runners and walkers participated, setting a record
for NEF and the need to super-size and relocate from Farris Stadium to SeaWorld. This
year, the Foundation’s 20th anniversary year, NEF is on a mission to continue to be a
champion for NISD by getting 6,000 people across the 5K finish line.
Powell ES held its annual Fall
Family Night by transforming
the cafeteria into an Italian
restaurant. After enjoying a
plate of spaghetti and all the
fixings, the fourth and fifth
grade choir entertained the
audience by making its debut
performance this school year.
Also, parents were able to bid
on themed silent auction baskets
donated by teachers.
The evening concluded with
the first ever crowning of
campus royalty. Pictured are
Queen Stephanie Martinez, a
third grader; and King Noah
Oropeza, a second grader.
Prices for the day include the following options:
• $25 – Individual registration for 5K only
• $50 – Family and Friends Group (Must be 3-6 members) – for 5K only
• $25 – Sleepwalker
• $30 – includes SeaWorld lunch and park ticket per registrant
• T-shirts and chip timing are sold separately.
• Parking is free for all options until 8:15 a.m. (A one day park access pass is
normally $60 at the gate; Aquatica is not included in the options.)
In addition, children under 10 can participate in the Kids Fun Run for free by registering
on site. For those who prefer to sleep in but still want to donate, there is a Sleepwalker
registration.
Because this event is a NEF fundraiser that generates funding for more classroom and
department resource, innovation, and team grants, SeaWorld teacher passes and season
passes will not be accepted as part of registration.
Make it a championship 5K for NEF and sign up for the race, lunch, and fun time in the
park with NISD supporters! For more information and to sign up, please visit www.nisd.

Brauchle bands together against bullying
YouTube
Feature
Almost 25 years to the day
since the fall of the Berlin
Wall, Clark HS German
students commemorated the
occasion by constructing a
replica of the Berlin Wall and
participating in a day-long
celebration of German culture,
language, and music. Click
here to learn more.
Students at Brauchle ES
wore blue wristbands in
recognition of National
Anti-Bullying Week. The
wristbands were embossed
with the words, “Character
Counts at Brauchle.”
Students learned that
by demonstrating good
character and reinforcing
the six pillars of character,
they can “band up” against
bullying.
