SCAe-News November 2015 From the Desk of Mrs. Jackson It’s November…. With November we have changed our time routines. It’s a brighter morning when we get started each day! The colder temperatures are sure to be a routine soon, so please be sure that your students are warmly dressed for each day. As you can tell by the monthly newsletter we have a lot of activities this month. Please be sure to check the calendar, weekly e-notes and our website for all of these scheduled events. INSIDE THIS ISSUE: 5K Fun Run/Walk 2 Parade of Lights 2 Calendar of Events 2 Operation Christmas Child 3 November is a month for counting blessings, and they are very numerous at SCA. Each day shows us more and more that God is continuing in a mighty way to bless our community. May November be full of blessings for our SCA community and beyond as the Lord shows us in our daily routine. May we recognize each and every day those blessings and give praise. Lastly, may the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit (Philemon 1:25), all of the days. We also have around 4,000 candy canes that we will be handing out with the same message. A great way for SCA to spread the true meaning of CHRISTmas to our community! Here are a few ways you as SCA families can help! • Attend the parade on Saturday, November 21st @ 5:30pm and join us as we share Christ’s love. Little ones and their parents will be able to ride on the float and all others will get to walk behind waving & smiling. • The cost of this ministry is between $200-$300, so if you feel led to give, there is a container in the school office. • If you enjoy building things and/or working with teens, we would love to have you as a part of our team! For workdays and times, please contact Jennifer Underwood by email at: [email protected] or by phone at 785493-2378. • We need help putting the labels on the candy canes, so if you are willing to help, please contact the school office. • We will also need help tearing down the float after the parade, so if you are able to help with that process please let us know! If your family would like to take this opportunity, to bless those in need, please send any of these items to school by Tuesday, November 17th. INFORMATION BULLETIN BOARD Winter Weather - Important School Closing Information It is rapidly approaching that time of year when we will keep an eye on foul weather that could prevent us from having school. The process looks like this: 1. Mr. Reynolds and I begin to monitor storms in advance of their approach. The morning of a storm, he will check county roads and I tour the city streets. 2. We try to make the call as early as possible in the morning, before 6:30am and preferably the night before, but the weather does not always cooperate. 3. I have a list of radio and television stations that I contact as soon as the call is made. It sometimes takes them time to get them posted. Please note these below as the best sources to determine if SCA will not have classes. 4. We do NOT always follow USD 305 closing, so it is not safe to assume we both close at the same time – it is true that more often than not we do but there have been occasions when we called school and they did not. 5. On those in-between days, I will always attempt to come to school and be out front in case someone left the house early to bring kids to school and didn’t hear the report that we closed that day. Here are the primary places I will post school closing: • • • • • • • KSAL KJIL KWCH KSN KAKE SCA FB PAGE SCA SCHOOL WEBSITE Page 4 Picture Retakes - Class Composites - Friday, November 6th Picture retakes will be this Friday, November 6th. Students that were absent for pictures in September will have their picture taken. If you are interested in having your child’s picture retaken, please send your packet back to school as soon as possible, so we can add them to the list. Class composites will also be taken on November 6th. Order forms have been sent home, and should be returned by picture day. On The Pot Ornament Painting, Friday November 13th We will be painting On The Pot ornaments in gym on Friday, November 13th between 8:30am-10:30am. If you would like to come and help during this time, please let your child’s teacher know. No School - November 23-27 There will be no school from November 23-27 for Thanksgiving break. Dress code reminders As the weather begins to get cooler there are some dress codes we want to remind you of; Socks/tights - solid navy or white socks or tights may be worn. Solid navy, or white leggings may also be worn. Sweaters - solid navy sweaters, navy or gray SCA sweatshirts, hoodies, and zip up jackets, or solid navy jackets are allowed to be worn in the classroom for all grades. If your child gets cold in the classroom, please be sure to send one of these to school with them. If you ever have any questions concerning dress codes, please contact the school office. Volunteer Opportunities Here at SCA we have several areas in which we rely on volunteer help and ask that each family consider volunteering their time in one of these areas. Areas that we are always in need of more help are Lunchroom & Library volunteers. Please be praying about where you would like to serve this year. Lunchroom volunteers needed: One Monday per month, and every Tuesday, and Wednesday in the Kitchen (microwaving lunches, or checking students at the door). Please contact Julie Bretado at 914-9508, or the school office if you would like to sign up to help. Library volunteers needed: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons. Please contact Jennifer Lamer at 2011200, or the school office. Moms in Prayer Moms in Prayer meets on Tuesdays at 8:30am in the computer lab. LEHNER We will be doing our “On the Pot” painting around 9:20am on Friday, November 13th. I am asking for as many of you who can to please come and help your student paint their projects. The more supervision we have the better the projects will look. There will not be a new book coming home tonight. Instead, I am sending a copy of the verses we are learning for the Christmas program, Luke 2:7-14, so that you can begin going over these with your student. The children are also very excited about the Christmas Shoe Boxes, we are praying that we will have enough items to fill all those boxes in our hallway. Our letters for this week are G and D. During Bible time, we have been learning about Heaven and the days of Creation. We have had several great discussions about what we must “do” to be able to go live in Heaven someday. 1ST GRADE - MRS. In light of the Royals' World Series win, we are playing either kickball or baseball with one team being the Royals circa 1985 and the other being the Royals circa 2015. Do you remember the first win? Seems like yesterday! A quick reminder about the cooler weather, please send your child to school with a jacket or a sweatshirt. Most of our PE times are in the morning, and it can be rather chilly outside. VOCAL MUSIC/ORCHESTRA - MRS. TIMKEN Our Christmas concert songs are off to a great start! I love seeing the students starting to get excited about the songs and working hard at learning them! The 3rd-6th graders are also working on their songs for the Veteran’s Day celebration coming up on November 11th at 10:00am in the SCA gym. Parents and guests are welcome to join us on that day! Congratulations to the 4th grade orchestra students! All of these students had some time on their practice chart! I was so proud of them for their hard work and effort.
