Session 5
Adjectives of Quality
40 min
Performance Objectives:
This session will focus on adjectives through use of Aesop’s fable: ‘The Ant
and the Grasshopper’. The learners will listen attentively to the story narrated/read by the teacher. The teacher will draw their attention to the two
animals in the story and ask them a few questions to check comprehension
like: What was the ant busy doing? Which animal of the two do you like? This
should generate a list of qualities of both animals like the ant is hardworking,
the grasshopper is lazy and so on. Next, the class will watch the video or enact
the story to get a better glimpse of the two characters. The class will be given
the story in worksheet 5A with instructions to underline any 5 adjectives and
list them in a grid. The teacher will encourage them to use the thesaurus and
find suitable synonyms that have to be written in the grid. The teacher will
encourage them to compare the two animals in terms of their qualities e.g.
the ant is hard-working while the grasshopper is sociable. This session can
be used to assess the students understanding of adjectives and strengthens
their ability to use the thesaurus.

"Why not come and singg with me," said the

"I am helping to store food

"Why bother about winter?" saidd the Grasshopper; "we have plenty of food right

But the Ant went on its way and continued its work.
The weather soon turned cold. All the food lying in the field was covereed with a thick white
