FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA ADVISORY – Wednesday, March 8, 2017 Fargo Public School District #1 STUDENTS INTERVIEW GUESTS ABOUT SCHOOL BUILDING HISTORY The Eagles Elementary school building has quite a varied history. These elementary students are curious and want to have their questions answered. WHAT: WHEN: WHERE: CONTACT: Eagles Building Walking Tour and Interviews Friday, March 10, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. Room 229, plus interior and exterior tour of building, Eagles Elementary, 3502 South University Drive, Fargo Tanya Wrigley-Lingle, Eagles principal, 701.446.3904, [email protected] or Reiko Barnett, Second Grade teacher, 701.446.3929 or [email protected] for more information. The 56 second graders at Eagles Elementary School are curious – what was their building like in its previous uses? How did its current building configuration come to be? The students have compiled a list of interview questions to ask their special guests Michele Vannote, former principal for Eagles Kindergarten Center, and Allan Ochsner, former head engineer of the Eagles Kindergarten Center, on March 10. The principle query for the event is “How did Eagles Elementary School come to be?” The school building formerly housed the Fargo Public Schools Kindergarten Center, and the building was originally built by the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Fargo Aerie No. 153. Ochsner and his family used the facility when it was Fargo Eagles Aerie 153. The guest speakers will conduct a walking tour throughout the building and around the exterior of the structure as the students receive answers to such questions as: Did they do any remodeling to change it from the Fraternal Order of Eagles building to the Kindergarten Center? Were there always bathrooms in the classroom? Did all rooms have a storage area? Why are the lockers on the inside of the classroom? Did you have as many students in 1997 as we do in 2017? Was there an upstairs in the Kindergarten Center? What was the basement used for? How much did it cost to remodel the Kindergarten Center into Eagles Elementary? Where were the gym, office, and library located in the Kindergarten Center? Was there a classroom for Art or was it in the regular classroom? The interviews and tour are part of a project-based learning activity for the Eagles second graders, and employs 21st Century skills (Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking) to establish a resolution to a real-world issue.
