About ABPsi
47 years ago, The Association of
Black Psychologists emerged out
of a need for sensitive and culturally competent psychologists to
serve multicultural and pluralistic communities. ABPsi has established diversity minded ideas
and forward-looking perspectives in support of a broad range
of community initiatives. These
initiatives include help to
eradicate health disparities and
barriers to treatment for youth
and families facing serious
mental
illness.
Recently,
ABPsi participated in the 44th
Annual Legislative Conference
Forum of the Congressional Black
Caucus (CBC), in a session entitled, “From Trauma to Wellness:
Building the Movement for Emotional Healing, Mental Health,
and Well-Being in the Black
Community”. The historic session was attended by over 250
participants and resulted in the
ABPsi receiving an invitation to
participate in the 2016 45th
CBC Legislative Conference.
Members
provided
crisis
response, through our Emotional
Emancipation Initiative, to Ferguson
residents,
and
in
cities around the country, and
have been invited to the
50th Anniversary of the Selma-toMontgomery March Commemoration in March, 2015.
ABPsi is a 501(c)(3) membership
based organization in the
Washington D.C. Metro area
with chapters throughout the
United States, and a small cadre
of international members. Our
research, publications, assessment techniques and therapeutic
strategies are instrumental in
providing information and training to promote a compassionate,
African-centered approach for
healing and health promotion.
