The convention
The weight of the roof terrace decking must be deducted from the total
permissible roof load and therefore reduces the remaining useable roof load
considerably. This creates a demand for a lightweight decking that ensures
rainwater drainage while compensating for the slope of the drain.
A plank construction is usually used in this case because it fulfils these
requirements, but it has clear disadvantages:
– Weatherproofing can be limited depending on the type of construction and
material used
– Difficult to maintain
– Complex substructure
– Little flexibility in terms of maintenance i.e water drainage system within the
substructure is inaccessible
– Limited choice of materials: various types of wood or WPC
