calorimetry? Here’s an analogy.
Imagine you have two Italian clients that are the same weight and age.
Client one: LaFerrari, 2 years old, 1,490 kg
...and Client two: e-Fiat 500, 2 years old, 1,420 kg

Both clients are nearly identical in weight, age, and regional heritage. Using a calorie calculator,
the equation predicts equal fuel metabolism of 50 miles per gallon. If you were to plan a diet
strategy for these two clients using only the calorie calculator, you would recommend they
take in the same amount of fuel.
However, when you conduct the actual indirect calorimetry measurements, you discover
that LaFerrari has a "metabolism like a race car" at 18 miles per gallon, whereas e-Fiat
has a much slower metabolism, at 84 miles per gallon. So, as it turns out, e-Fiat needs
significantly less fuel than LaFerrari. Knowing this, you can plan the right amount of fuel
per day for each individual client.

Now, let’s look at actual human clients. Suppose:
Layla and Fione have the same height, weight, and age, and follow similar sedentary lifestyles.
However, Layla's true metabolism is 1,800 kCal/day, while Fione’s is 1,300 kCal/day.
Calorie calculators would report 1,500 kCal/day for both women. That would overestimate
Fione’s calorie needs by 180 calories per day! This means if Fione followed the diet plan, she
would be overeating and gaining weight.
