Corruption (Denounce!) This playful experience deals with the issue of corruption and promotes the denouncing of corrupt acts as a civic exercise. Players enact actions that represent incurring in acts of corruption or honesty and have the opportunity to denounce such incidents. In order to play several things and materials are needed as part of the set up of the game: -‐ A board: it is designed with color papers, ideally post-‐it’s. 2 colors are needed. -‐ A die. -‐ Incident cards: these are papers that show what kind of civic incident the player has incurred and has to sort out either behaving corruptly or honestly. They imply the paying of a fine. The players can decide if to pay or not that amount. An example of incidents and the fine amounts can be found at the end of this document. The fines can increased or decreased based on the number of construction elements available, the lower the number the simpler the economy that will be simulated. -‐ Construction elements: use plastic mugs that can be piled up or rather resources that can be reused such as Lego blocks. The amount of these elements should be considerable, at least about 30 or 35 units per player. The more units or blocs the lengthier the play session. How to set up the board? Based on the number of players a circular course must be constructed. For each player there must 5 spots placed; in case of having 4 players this means there should be 20 spots in total of the same color in the course. 4 different color-‐spot tracks should extend inwards the circular course in a very similar way as in Parchesee (in the image to the left it can be seen dark yellow post-‐it rows converging towards the center of the circle). These special rows lead to the denouncing spots. They imply a detour from the original course and taking some additional time out from the game in order to perform the civic act of denouncing corruption. The next page contains the instructions sheet to be printed out and shown to the players. CORRUPTION (DENOUNCE!) -‐ 4 to 8 players -‐ Behave corruptly, behave honestly and denounce corruption. THE FIRST PERSON TO GET RID OF ALL CONSTRUCTION UNITS WINS! • Setup the board based on the number of players. • Make sure you all have the same number of blocs, at least 30 blocs per person. Build a tower with your units. Beware you will be removing and adding up continuously more units, so make sure your construction is versatile. • Place the incident cards upside down in the middle of the course. Rules: • The game is turn base. • Players roll the die to move clockwise the number yield by the die. • When the die yields 4 or 5 an incident card has to be taken by the player, be read and sort out, either paying (completely) or not the fine, being corrupt or honest. • The person to the left of the player that incurred in the incident has to claim the fine. This person can also behave corrupt or honest and decide if he will charge what is fair or not. (Example: A fine can be of 5 units. The player that incurred the incident may offer 2 units while the responsible for claiming the money may be claiming 6 instead, in this case they both are behaving corruptly.) • All the unit blocs that are acquired from another player are positioned in your construction tower. • To denounce a corrupt person the player has to go out of the course to the different color tracks that go to the center of the course and once reaching the final spot of the track corruption acts can be denounced. • When a player is denounced, the construction units earned corruptly are forfeited and placed in a discard pile. • There is no restriction for the players on going clockwise or counter-‐ clockwise. These are examples of incident cards ready to be cut out and printed out. Each of the following boxes contains 2 incidents and their respective Fine amounts. This material can be modified for tuning the game based on the blocs available and number of players.
