Create the Ringmaster Costume - on its own or as part of a circus theme with family using the Gypsy Fortune
Teller, Lion, Circus Strongman or Clown costumes available on A.C. Moore's website!

Step 1
For vest, cut sleeves off a Black t-shirt, cutting slightly larger than the arm hole. Cut off neck ribbing and then a cut
down the center of shirt front. Fold back top section of neck to create a “V” and cut off.
Step 2
For the bottom front of vest cut each side to two “points”, with the back of the shirt going straight across.
Step 3
Glue on 3 large Black buttons. Use Velcro to close vest where the buttons are underneath.
Step 4
For jacket, first start with the Red shirt one size larger than the child wearing this costume. Cut an 11-1/2 inch x
5-1/2 inch section from front bottom portion of shirt. You will still have some of the front edge of the shirt remaining.
Step 5
Cut down center of shirt. Fold back front flaps of shirt to create lapels that measure about 2-1/2 inch at the “point”
of the lapel.
Step 6
To create the jacket tails, cut the XL Red shirt across, under the armpits and then down one side.
Step 7
Turn the shirt upside down. These edges will be later glued to the bottom of the jacket.
Step 8
Measuring from the bottom of the shirt (as it is laid out in front of you), cut an 11 inch triangle from the center
bottom. Taper the outside edges of shirt so it looks like tuxedo tails. Glue edges together. Glue the straight edge of
shirt to inside of back of shirt jacket, about an inch inside. Note: you may want to glue tails higher inside shirt
depending on the height of your child.
Step 9
Fold the 9 inch x 12 inch Red felt sheet in half lengthwise and glue together. Fold in half again and cut off edge at a
slight diagonal. Repeat again for other cuff. Glue on 2 sets of velcro dots to each cuff so that when put around wrist
the ends come together as a decorative cuff.
Step 10
For coat buttons, remove backing from two Gold glitter foam sheets and put together. Cut out 22, one inch buttons.
Step 11
Now we’re ready to decorate! Start by gluing Gold trim to the bottom center section of jacket, working your way
around the edge of the jacket, around the tails and back to the other side. Tip: cut trim at corners and glue again at
new angle…no mitering of corners!).
Step 12
Glue trim along the outlines of the lapels; add additional stripe along top edge; see photo for reference.
Step 13
Add trim in two lines on front of jacket, approximately one inch from edge, going around the back of jacket to the
other side. Glue on “buttons” as shown on both sides of front and 4 buttons on the back. Add velcro circle to one
side of bottom of jacket front so it will close.
Step 14

For cuffs, glue down 3 stripes of Gold trim approximately an inch apart and 1/2 inch from edge of cuff. Glue on
buttons. Option: cut out 6 more buttons and add to both sides of cuffs.
Step 15
For bowtie, cut a 1 inch x 11 inch section of Red felt from 9 inch x 12 inch sheet. Roll felt together forming a 2-1/2
wide tube of felt. Glue down end of felt to the tube.
Step 16
Tuck “inside” coils of felt back into tube and glue down outer layers together; this will form a more puffy fabric tube.
With remaining 1 inch strip of felt, fold in half. Gather tie in center and glue on strip to make the tie, cutting off
excess. Hot glue to center neck area of White t-shirt.
Step 17
Trim White t-shirt so it is shorter than the length of the Black vest.
Step 18
Cut Gold Glitter Adhesive foam sheet into 3 inch lengths. Remove adhesive backing and hot glue to hat, starting
with the center of the foam sheet at the front of the hat. Measure how much more foam is needed to go around
entire hat brim, cut and glue on.
Step 19
For whip, fold entire hank of parachute cord into thirds and cut into 3 pieces. Tie a knot at one end and braid
together. With remainder of Gold trim, wrap and glue around handle. Cut two 14 inch strips of Red felt.
Step 20
To create the ring of fire, use the 36 inch x 36 inch Red felt pack. Cut strips of Red felt so that when they are folded
in half, they are 7 inch x 36 inch. Download and print templates. Then place template so that bottom/flat side of
flame is at the folded edge of the felt and cut. You should get 10 flames per strip. Use remaining piece of Red felt
to cut approx 6 more flames, for a total of 26 flames.
Step 21
Fold Yellow felt in half so that it is 4 inch x 12 inch. Place template so that bottom/flat side of flame is at the folded
edge of the felt and cut. You should be able to get 5 flames from each sheet for a total of 30 flames.
Step 22
Glue the smaller Yellow flames to the larger Red flames.
Step 23
Folding flames in half, wrap around hula hoop. Glue outside edge of hula hoop and around the flame. Continue all
the way around hoop. You may want to overlap the flames a bit to hide the hula hoop surface.
