needs IMMEDIATE referral)

TIA is an unlikely diagnosis,
so consider alernative referral
route.

Has the patient had an attack within the last two
weeks plus one or more of the following:
Do not give aspirin
Yes
High-risk TIA pathway
Call Stroke SpR immediately on
0775 373 9286.
Give aspirin 300mg stat
(unless contraindicated)
• ABCD2 ≥4 (see above)
• 2 or more attacks in
the last month
• On warfarin
• AF (including
paroxysmal AF)
No
Low-risk TIA pathway
Give aspirin 300mg stat (unless contraindicated).
Give form to the patient. Ask them to fast from
midnight.
Then arrive at 8.30am at the HASU,
