Bakersfield Fire Dept. donates to CALM
Bakersfield Firefighters were recently made aware that the on-site firefighting equipment
at the California Living Museum was deteriorated and in need of replacement. BFD donated
firefighting hose lines that were still 100 per cent functional but beyond outdates for Fire
Department use.
The hose was initially slated for destruction, but will now serve a much more beneficial purpose
at CALM. In the event of a threatening interface fire, there will now be usable, deployable hose
lines in place on the zoo facility site.
Our sincere appreciation to the Bakersfield Fire Department and their generous donations!
Congratulations Wildlife
Rehabilitation class of 2017!
Last February, CALM graduated the Wildlife Rehabilitation
class of 2017.
The Wildlife Rehabilitation Team assists our Animal Keepers
caring for more than 800 injured or orphaned birds that come
through CALM each year. Without our Wildlife Rehabilitation
volunteers, it would be almost impossible to manage a
successful program. We proudly acknowledge the following
for completing the course and actively joining the Wildlife
Rehabilitation Team:

Olivia Granger (center) recently had her fourth birthday at CALM. When
Olivia and her parents (Brad and Danielle) surveyed all of her toys she
already had, Olivia decided that she would like to have her party guests
bring items for the animals instead of gifts. Animal Keepers (front L-R)
Heather Balsamico, Andrew Adams (back L-R) Rachel Zamora and Kiersten Humphries gather all the goodies which include fruit, vegetables,
peanut butter, cat food, bleach, Ziploc bags and eggs. Thank you Olivia,
for having a heart of gold and for caring about the animals at CALM!
Two endangered, male, California Condors now call CALM their home.
Last November they were introduced to the public, and, you can see by
this photo, 324 enjoys the attention. The birds were recently transferred
to CALM from the Jonsson Center for Wildlife Conservation in Oregon,
in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service California Condor
Recovery Program. This is the first time in the zoo’s history that we
have housed these magnificent birds.
MAKING IT HAPPEN
CALM is sincerely grateful for the support of those who gave
donations, memberships, animal adoptions, honors and
memorials or volunteered their precious time. In order to
reduce our printing costs, we publish the list of these generous
businesses, organizations and individuals on our website at
http://calmzoo.org/making-it-happen/. Thank you for your
generosity. We couldn’t do it without you!
