Bullying Prevention Antelope Valley High School District: Week long anti-bullying campaigns with classroom door competitions and student presentations/assemblies; all focusing on school-wide awareness of antibullying. Many of the school clubs plan on working with students in small group settings to help identify the different types of bullying (including the dangers of cyberbullying) and how students can report it. Their goal is to put a support structure in place, where students can feel comfortable to report bullying in any form. Eastside School District Tierra Bonita is hosting “This is OUR Town: Creating Safer Schools Bullying 101” event: Saturday, November 10th from 8:30am – 1:30pm At Tierra Bonita Elementary School Free for educators, parents, and community members who work with diverse youth Cole Middle School has S.H.A.R.E. Tolerance Assemblies scheduled for 6th and 7th grade students on Friday, November 2nd during P.E. classes. The Eastside USD is coordinating a date with Lancaster City Councilmember Sandra Johnson’s office for her to also speak to the Cole students. Columbia Elementary, Nov. 9th will be Columbia’s Character Counts Kick Off (initial anti-bullying campaign) as well as their Student of the Month Assembly. Westside School District Kindness Certified District participating in the The Great Kindness Challenge January 26-30, 2015 Unifying district-wide program and activities to participate in the world-wide Great Kindness Challenge Week encouraging and empowering universal acts of kindness. Activities include kick-off pep rally at each school site, school-wide kindness competitions, Pay It Forward, Random Acts of Kindness and Mix It Up Activities. Character Education lessons delivered throughout the school year by Guidance Counselors at middle school levels promoting unity, tolerance and strong character. Week of Action Nov 12th – 16th – each school will have age appropriate activities for the students highlighting the themes: o Day of Darkness o Day of Silence o Day of Light Not In Our School Program (on-going): o Each school in the district will have a team that will design NIOS/NIOT activities for their campus. o Every school will have student ambassadors and an advisor. o This year the program is expanded to include grades 4 through 8. Lancaster School District On an on-going basis, school site administrators discuss bullying and appropriate behavior in classrooms as well as in various student assemblies and plan the following activities for this year: Several schools are participating in the anti-bullying program provided by Jeremiah Project 51, a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating bullying one school at a time. School psychologists are presenting individual classroom and assembly-type programs designed to educate students about bullying. New Vista Middle School has teachers presenting grade level appropriate concepts in class and the entire school is participating in a 3-day bullying awareness program put together by their school psychologist. Piute Middle School leadership students study anti-bullying strategies and then visit elementary school sites where they demonstrate the strategies (through skits) to the younger students and then work with them in small groups to teach the skills. They work with one class at a time for an hour each are rotate through different classes throughout the day.
