Saint Philomena’s Boys Lacrosse 2017 We are excited for the third season of the Saint Philomena School Boys Lacrosse team! The team is open to boys in Grades 6-8. We will not be conducting tryouts. We believe everyone can contribute to a team effort. We look forward to building a team of experienced players and developing skills with those new to the sport. The number of players we have and their skill level and experience will determine who dresses for games. Please note the playing time of each player will be directly tied to their current skill level/experience, the player’s improvement and the effort they put forth in practice. It is important for players and their families to note the commitment required to participate in this school lacrosse program. Your son will be asked to attend all practices and games, demonstrate good sportsmanship and be a team player. It requires an investment of your time, maintaining good academic standing and a monetary investment for equipment. Uniforms will be provided to each boy. They are school property and care must be taken during the season. They will be required to hand in their uniform following the last game of the season. There are numerous places to purchase required equipment; Olympia Sports, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Play It Again Sports (consigned equipment), etc. The individual players’ equipment needs to be provided by the student. Required Equipment: o o o o o Lacrosse Helmet mouth guard (must attach to helmet cage with strap) Cleats Lacrosse Stick. If your player has not played before please get them a standard men’s “short” stick. Long poles for defense should only be used by experienced defensive players. Lacrosse pads to include: padded gloves elbow pads chest/shoulder pad set. (These can be purchased as a set.) protective cup (MUST be worn during every practice and game or they will NOT play) water bottle (preferably a football one with a bent straw, so they can drink without removing their helmet) Physicals and permission slips: o o o A current physical (within the last year) is required to practice and play. A permission slip completed and returned to Ms. Legare before Monday, March 13th. Please have your player submit these to Ms. Amanda Legare, Athletic Director by Monday, March 13th. Ms. Legare will be the ultimate reviewer of these items. Practices: Monday and Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:45. Parents should plan to pick up their student no later than 5pm from practice. At 5pm students will be sent to after-care. ***Our team’s first practice/assessment will be Monday, March 13th*** Games and important information about pick-up: o o o Game schedule: Our game schedule will be published as soon as it is available. Travel to and from away games: The students will travel to away games on a bonded school bus. Parents should plan to pick up the students at the game location as there is NO return bus transportation. Coordinated carpooling must be coordinated prior to start of game. Home games: These will function just like practices. Parents are responsible to pick up their players upon completion of the game. Our goal is to grow the boys lacrosse program at St. Philomena School while fostering good sportsmanship, teamwork and love of the game. This year’s volunteer coaching staff has many years of lacrosse coaching. The coaching team this year will be Head Coach Tony Polgar and Assistant coaches John Harris, Tom Rocco and Rick Costa. Please contact me with any questions you may have. We look forward to a fun and successful season! Thank you, Tony Polgar E-mail: [email protected] Cell Phone: 617-448-2437
