We are continuing our poetry unit this week. From the
mid-unit assessments, we have decided to focus on the
difference between poetry and prose, in addition to
summarizing texts that we read. The End of Unit
Assessment is approaching fast, and to help your
scholar prepare, we ask that you read with them at
home and have them summarize what they have read.
We will begin our unit on addition and subtraction of greater
numbers up to the ten-thousands place. Your child is in the
process of being tested individually tested on fluency of their
multiplication facts. In order for the facts to be mastered,
recall needs to be within three seconds. You will receive a
packet of the facts your child is struggling with along with
flash cards to be studied nightly. Thank you for your support.

We will begin the unit on the Solar System!! The scholars
always enjoy learning about the planets and stars. This week
we will be looking at various power points of the eight
different planets (sorry we don’t include Pluto any more)
and learn their relative size and order from the sun. They
may wish to pull up information on a device in your
home. We teach them an easy
mnemonic: My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nacho
s. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune.
We will take a break from Social Studies this week so
that we can focus on the solar system. Our next unit in
Social Studies will be European explorers which will
start next week.
