From the Editor
Welcome to the first ever
edition of the Perrott Parrot!
It is written entirely by and
for the students of this
school (but parents are welcome to have a read, too!). I
hope you enjoy reading
what the students have to
offer!
Mr Patrick
From the Editor-in-Chief
Hello! I have really enjoyed
taking responsibility for the
lay-out of our paper. I hope
you enjoy reading our first
edition! Keep hold of it; first
editions are worth lots of
money…
REVAMPED SPORTS HALL
UNVEILED!
P
errott Hill recently unveiled an
improved Sports Hall! It includes new changing rooms for the
boys and girls, a new viewing gallery
for the parents to watch matches, and
a new sports store and office. We also
have a projector that projects pictures
in the entrance hall. ―The sports hall
is brilliant,‖ said Mr Sheldon. Thank
you Mr Morse, you made the right
choice! The new showers in the
changing rooms are fantastic. They
are heated, which I think is amazing.
They also have doors with locks on
them. The showers and loos have
funky wall colours too! We also have
amazing looking lockers: they are
green and better quality than the last
ones. The viewing gallery has some
new table tennis tables, which are
great. We also have two windows: one
of which looks out on to the netball
court so you can watch matches when
it‘s raining. This new Sports Hall is
brilliant and we all love it.

Most embarrassing moments:
Her skirt fell off when she was
on stage once! She fell over in
front of Mr Morse‘s study, and
threw a pile of paper because
she was angry and then realised she had to pick it all up!
Her Life:
She lived on a farm when little
and had a pony, donkey,
geese, chickens, goat and peacocks. She was taught by her
mum who was a drama teacher. Her dad was an art teacher.
Her University was Norwich
School of Art. Her first teaching job was as a Gappy at an
all-boys school! She met Mr
Morse at this school, too! They
married in 1998.
Mrs Morse has taught for 20
years now—that‘s a long time!
Perrott is her 3rd school. Before
this she taught at Bakewell
School.
Mr Morse
Given names:
Robert John
Born:
12th June 1971
Family:
1 daughter:
Daisy; 1 son: Harry;
1 wife (!): Lottie.
Pets:
2 dogs, Poppy and Nelly, both are
black Labradors.
Perrott is his 4th school and the
best school he has taught at!
His Life
Loves history. In his youth he loved
Maths, Geography and Games. His
favourite sports are cricket and rugby.
He met Mrs Morse as a teacher when
they worked at the same school. In
the holidays he reads, eats, surfs,
runs, swims and does crosswords.
Children spur him on: every time
they achieve things he gets inspired.
If Mr Morse could change anything he might change the car park
a bit, but nothing big.
couldn‘t believe his eyes. He nearly
shot one of the runners in frustration!
This is what Milo Best, the editor of
this paper, had to say about the ice
cream, ‗There were so many flavours,
it was awesome. I tried them all had
permanent brain-freeze.‘ Lots of prizes were handed out on Sports Day.
Most importantly, the winner of the
house trophy was Quantocks! They
rarely win on Sports Day, but this
year was an exception.
Thanks to Mr Sheldon & Miss
White for organizing a fun-filled
day for the whole school.
Mr and Mrs Morse are off to start
a new life at Aysgarth School this
September.
Thank you, Mr and Mr Morse, for
everything you have done at Perrott Hill and good luck at your
new school!

Mario Kart 8 by Milo Best
I
n the first issue I will be
looking at three prime
Nintendo video games of
2014 and 2015.
My first review, to start the
ball rolling, is Mario Kart 8
for the Wii U. I‘ve been a
huge fan of the Mario Kart
series ever since the original came out on the SNES.
Mario Kart 8 has some brilliant new tracks and stunning visuals. Classic racecourses have been revamped so they incorporate
new features like anti-gravity and
flight. Anti-gravity has added whole
new opportunities to the game, like
new shortcuts and many interesting
tracks. It has changed competitive
play completely. Furthermore there
are no longer set karts for characters;
instead there are new karts and gliders and you are allowed to mix and
match to find the perfect combo to
drive your way to victory. There are
four engine sizes, yes, I said four! 200
cc came out earlier this year via DLC
(downloadable content), along with
two new cups, 3 new characters and
brand new karts and tracks. Competitive and casual play is a lot more
interesting.
I highly recommend Mario Kart 8.
Super Smash Bros. 4 by Milo Best
S
uper Smash Bros. is acclaimed as one of the
greatest Nintendo games of all
time, ever since the original
came out on the Nintendo 64.
It has grown since the release of
SSB4 for the Nintendo 3DS; on the
Wii U the game has got better and
better with new characters, combos
and stages. It is not just any old button smasher, but a game of skill and
knowledge that will challenge all.
With over 30 characters to play with
and a brilliant online mode you have
every opportunity to hone your skills
against others. Two new characters
have been added to the choice availa-
ble via extra DLC: Mewtwo (from
the Pokémon games) and Lucas
(from the Earthbound series). They
both appeared in previous SSB
games. SSB4 has amazing looks and
is a joy to play. The battle stages are
a diverse collection and lend a nod
to real Nintendo classics. Altogether,
Super Smash Bros for Wii U and
3DS is a great game to add to your
collection.
Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire by Milo Best
A
nother game that has
been extremely successful for Nintendo is
Pokémon Omega Ruby and
Alpha Sapphire. In the game
you begin as a ten-year-old
boy or girl who's travelling
through the world of Hoenn.
You battle against an evil
organisation using your
Pokémon and save the world
from impending natural
doom. In the brilliant postgame content (the Delta episode), you will meet brilliant
people, go to wonderful places and
defeat all eight gym leaders (the
bosses in the games). After that you
will journey to the Elite Four and
become Champion of the Region.
There are many new features like the
DexNav, which helps you catch the
perfect Pokémon either for battling
or breeding. The breeding mechanic
in this game is much better than previous versions. Now you can breed
for egg moves, natures, abilities and
stats. It is no longer a complicated
series of calculations, thus making it
easy for any Pokémon player, veteran or beginner. The new game altogether is brilliant, with a great story
line and amazing features. This game
is an instant classic for Nintendo.

Terraria by Ben Sheldon & Drake Hendrickson
T
erraria is a sandbox
game. You fight, mine,
build and go on adventures
in your world. You progress
through the game by defeating monsters and bosses,
gaining weapons, armour
and accessories, and completing challenges. If you
progress through enough
events you can complete the
game. Terraria is one of the
most talked-about games at
Perrott Hill.
In the game you get lots of different environments, called
‗biomes‘, such as:
 Desert
 Snow
 Forest
 Jungle
 Hell
 Ocean
There are many ‗mobs‘ and
‗bosses‘ that your player can
fight.
Terraria is a truly great game.
We give it 8/10, and recommend it to you now! It is a creative experience, because it allows you to adventure and understand the world around you.
Pros: Terraria has no rules so
you can do whatever you want
(sort of).
Cons: It is only 2D and restrictions do apply.
Splatoon by Milo Best
S
platoon, the most hyped
Nintendo game of 2015,
is utterly fabulous and
shamone! It‘s fun and so inkcredibly addictive. In the
game you are an inkling and
a squid. You will fight monsters and evil bosses whilst
gaining levels and ranking
up, all using Paint, yeah
Paint! It sounds weird but it
works really well. It will
bring new flavour and colour to your mind. It is fluid
and smooth, letting you
combine weapons like rollers or
brushes with your outfit.
As a nerd I was instantly excited. A game with paint coming
to stores. It was awesome. Each
time more news was released I
was so excited I couldn‘t sleep!
Sadly I couldn‘t get the game at
the time of release. There are
lots of videos and reviews online, though: check them out. It
is great to see the game in action, especially with all the
paint. It‘s awesome.
Splatoon is utterly shamone; it
has style, character and is brilliant all round. I can‘t wait to get
it with my Wii U! It is seriously
the HYPE. In conclusion,
Splatoon is sooooo gooood, it
will rock your world.

ELECTION SPECIAL
Page 5
The Day I Met David Cameron by Rafe Burfield
J
ust before Election Day
earlier this year, David
Cameron came to Nortonsub-Hamdon (see pic,
right)! If you don‘t know,
I live in that village. I was
in the swimming pool at
the time, but my mum
went to the shop and she
bumped into former Liberal Democrat politician,
Paddy Ashdown. He told
her that David Cameron
was coming to my village.
So we quickly got dried
and went outside to see
him! He came in his Jaguar
and a tour bus came with
him – it is called ‗The Battle Bus‘.
As you might have
guessed, I am a big fan of
the Conservative Party and
I was really happy that
they won in both the national election and the
school election.
Perrott Hill General Election by Bella Salmons
and had some very good points.
Representing the Green Party was
James Lloyd-Elliot. James gave a
good speech and put across some
good points. I liked his plan to
give each house some land for an
allotment so everyone could grow
and eat vegetables. Representing
Labour was Hatty Tremlett. Hatty
made a great speech and persuaded quite a few people to vote for
her. Representing Liberal Democrats was Danny Fisher. He was
very funny and got the crowd
laughing - he must get some
Brownie points for that!
T
he Perrott Hill Election took
place on Thursday 7th May
2015 at approximately 11.00.
Eight candidates stood in the
election and there were some fabulous speeches. These were the
Candidates:
Representing the Conservative
party was Connie Doxat. Connie
gave a very persuasive speech
Representing the Monster Raving
Loony Party was Ben Mallinson.
Ben got everyone in the room
laughing, even the teachers! He
put across some hilarious points
and he must have won himself a
lot of votes! Representing the
Scottish National Party was
James Farquharson. He put some
very important points across
about nuclear weapons, but I was
disappointed that he didn‘t do his
speech in a Scottish accent! Representing TUSC was Paul Edwards. Paul
did a very persuasive speech and was
very funny! And last but not least:
Mima Baring stood for UKIP. She
loves the United Kingdom and was
very persuasive!
The results of the election were announced on the following day. The
winner was Connie Doxat
(Conservative), who is now our
School MP! Good luck to Connie in
the coming 5 years. Maybe she‘ll come
back and visit to give a speech as MP!

Year 4 Play: Ye-ha! by Laura Edwards
Y
ear 4 put on a play
called ‗Ye-ha!‘ It was
about a boy becoming
sheriff but he was just a cook, so a
cowgirl named Billy-Jo Brisket
came to the town and helped the
boy. There was a no-good gang running wild in the town and Billy-Jo
(with the help of a boy named Wilbur)
had to defeat the mayor and the gang
(they were all bad) to save the town. In
the end they defeated the mayor and
the gang, and Billy-Jo became the sheriff and Wilbur became the mayor! I
was an Indian chief named Big Chief
Walking Weasel. It was a musical so
there were lots of songs. Ian (the
school caretaker) made us a fantastic
set with lots of little details. My favourite part of the play was when the
gang pulled their trousers down. Everyone laughed! There were lots of funny moments, and we really enjoyed it.
Year 6 Play: Captain Black Boot’s island by Paul Edwards
T
his was a play of hidden
treasure, confusion en
masse and a woman with nine
children. It was about Captain
Blackboot making a treasure
map with rhyming clues, but
no treasure at the end of it! He
sent out three of these treasure
maps in a bottle by sea. They
were found by three very different people:
1. Three children called Sally,
Victoria and James
2. Captain Blackboot‘s arch
enemy: Captain Bloodshot
and his crew.
3. Captain Blackboot‘s wife,
Victoria, and all her nine children!
The three children arrived
first and went through the
clues, but when they got to the
end they found no treasure. They
then complained to the Captain
that there was no treasure, but all
of a sudden, out of nowhere, Victoria turned up and said that she
had hit something hard in the
sand. It was treasure! Unfortunately, the pirates later turned up
and found the treasure whilst
Captain Blackboot was gone.
Then, if that wasn‘t enough, Captain Blackboot‘s wife turned up!
Captain Blackboot sent her and
her children on a wild goose
chase around the island. Out
of the darkness Captain Bloodshot appeared in front of Captain Blackboot and a fight
broke out! Whilst the fight was
in full-swing Captain Blackboot‘s wife came along. They
got captured in the heat of battle by the pirates but luckily
Captain Blackboot scared the
pirates away with the help of
‗the friendly people‘. It all ended happily ever after.

ally fun day). I knew I was dyslexic
when I was about 7 years old.
When I was at my old school some
of the teachers thought I was just
lazy and thick, and that I simply
couldn‘t be bothered to work.
B
eing dyslexic is very
hard, as I know. I wake
up every morning thinking
about how hard the day will
be and dread going to school
(even if it is going to be a re-
When I came to Perrott Hill I started Learning Support and they noticed straight away that there was
something wrong. They sent me off
to be tested and I found out I was
dyslexic. Being dyslexic does mean
you have to work harder than everyone else and you have to give up
some of your free time to work.
Even though dyslexic people find
things more difficult than others they
can go far in life. Take Albert Einstein,
for example. He was dyslexic and he
yet he became a famous scientist everyone has heard of! Another successful dyslexic person was the creator of
Apple computers: Steve Jobs. He created the most powerful phone in the
world! This just proves that dyslexic
people can go far in life; often we are
more practical, and see things
‘differently‘ to others. Being dyslexic
doesn‘t have to be terrible these days.
If you are dyslexic then don‘t get upset; try to see it as a good thing. Keep
calm and DON‘T compare yourself to
others.
This is what reading can look like through the eyes of someone who has dyslexia.
Advice Corner by Bonnie Kawar
Making friends
T
o make friends you need
to be confident! Go and
say hello! Trust me it will be
fine. If you are unique (and
everyone is) you will find
someone like you in every
school and they will be your
friend for sure. To make
friends you need to be kind
and polite.
Making friends sometimes
seems hard but it‘s not. People
usually complicate it when it‘s
really simple.
Keeping friends
Imagine someone who is your friend
has just said or done something really mean. What should you do? Well, I
would just ignore them at first. Maybe they‘ll feel bad and apologise.
Then I would ask them how they
think that mean thing made me feel?
If nothing works I might go and ask
an adult for advice. It could be a
teacher, but I like talking to my mum.
Just remember two wrongs don’t
make a right.
Do you have a friendship problem?
Write to me at the newspaper and I‘ll
try and write back.

Moon Bear by Marcia Kennard
T
here is a problem in the
woods. A family has to
be moved because the army
have to build a road to get to
the mountains. It is very different up in the mountains
and is also very un-protected
because there are no trees.
Tam was helping his father
plant rice when one of the
secret army bombs blew up
and his father died. Tam has to be
sent to the city to gain their family‘s money and health back.
I love this book because there‘s
always a mystery for Tam to
solve . There‘s always something
that wants to make you read on
and at the end you just wish that
there was more of the book! Moon
Bear is an amazing book and I recommend it to you immediately.
The Roman Mysteries by Catherine Hayton
T
he Roman Mysteries is a
great series of books. I really recommend them to you if
you are in Years 4, 5 or 6. Although they are a fiction series,
they involve loads of cool facts
about the Roman times! Each of
the books involves puzzles and
mysteries and even romance,
which I really like. If you do not
get the chance to buy these
books then don‘t worry because
you can find the series in the
school library.
The books follow 4 children: a Roman girl called Flavia and her African slave girl called Nubia; a Jew/
Christian called Jonathan, and a
mute -beggar-boy called Lupus. Another plus in these series is that they
can improve your Latin since there is
a Latin dictionary in the back! Books
2 and 3 are all about Mount Vesuvius
erupting, 2 being when it erupted
and 3 being how they handled it. My
favourite book is the Twelve Tasks of
Flavia Gemina. It‘s based on Hercule‘s 12 labours and is so much fun!
Clarice Bean by Ellie Duval
Author: Lauren Child.
Main Story line:
Clarice Bean is a school girl who
writes about her life.
What did you like about the book?
The cover looks really enticing and
when you get to read it it‘s fantastic.
How To Train Your Dragon by Paul Edwards
H
ow To Train Your Dragon
is a wonderful read with
danger, action and lots of humour. It tells the life story of
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock,
the son of Stoick the Vast, the
King of a Viking tribe called the
Berkians. Hiccup goes on the
Viking training program to try
and follow in his father‘s footsteps
but things don‘t quite go to plan!
I would recommend this book to
anyone between the ages of 5-13. I
would also recommend reading the
whole series because the books just
keep getting better and better.
How could the book be improved?
More jokes, because the best books
have loads of jokes. It‘s a great book
but a little serious.

Mr Eales has worked hard this term. To his credit Mr Eales persevered well with his in-class nose picking. He also tried really hard to make the lighting and sound look good in the Year 8 Play; I watched
him moving all the knobs around during rehearsals and he did not make it look easy. In the boarding
house he has a great sense of humour and knows how to have fun. I wish him the very best of luck in

Golf Fish by Catherine Hayton
Y
ou may know one fish
in the Rose Garden particularly well. This fish is
oddly shaped (see picture).
As you know, it contains a
large bump in its belly; this
fish is the ‗golf-fish‘. You
may also wonder how this
strange shape appeared on
the side of this fish! I‘m going to put these fears to rest
with this rather odd, but
true, story…
...One day Mr Morse was
practising his putting. However, he picked the wrong
club and took a rather large
swing that hit the ball all
the way over the school and
into the Rose Garden. He
chased after his ball only to
find that he had finally got
a hole in one! In a ‗golf
fish‘...
