News of the World phone hacking in 2006-2011 caused chaos in celebrities’, murder victims and their families’ lives. Relationships were broken, rumours were made it was all because they wanted to find out a bit of information no one knew but was private to the person involved. They did this by using a caller ID spoof which got them into the person they are callings voicemails, and was apparently very easy. EastEnders actor Steve McFadden said that the hacking had ‘destroyed’ his relationship with now ex-girlfriend and former co-star Lucy Benjamin, according to BBC news. The couple had hoped to marry soon but McFadden suspected Lucy for giving out his private information. Another EastEnders star Shane Richie said that he and co-star Jessie Wallace, who plays Shanes on-screen wife Kat Moon, suspected each other. Shane said he became very good friends with Jessie the when he joined the soap in 2002, and they would leave each other voicemail messages, which is how the news of the world got the information on these two in particular said the BBC. Shane said to the BBC: "After a while, me and Jessie didn't speak for five years because she didn't trust me and I didn't trust her because we both thought we were selling each other down the river with stories, which it turned out of course wasn't true." The newspaper has now been banned. The News of the World's political editor, David Wooding, said the news was greeted with great shock. "Some people are crying, very upset," he told the press outside News International's offices in Wapping, east London in 2011 said The Guardian. What happened affected these people’s lives massively and will never be forgotten. ALL PICTURES TAKEN FROM BBC NEWS
