2. Look on page 27, what is meant by muscles “working in pairs”?
Use p. 25-26 to draw each type of muscle cells in the circle. Then describe the
location and function of the specific type of muscle in the box.

Question: Will your muscles work better warm or cold?
Hypothesis: I think my muscles will work better _____________________ because ____________________________________________________________________________________________
Procedure:
1.
2.
Grip a clothespin with your thumb and index finger of your writing hand. Squeeze the clothespin open and shut as quickly as possible for 2 minutes. In your group, somebody should time the
two minute, someone else should count the “clicks” and the third person should actually be using their muscles to open and close the clothespin. Then, you will rotate jobs.
Repeat the procedure above, but submerge your hand in ice water for 30 seconds before counting the clicks.

Conclusions:
1. Of the 3 muscles types from the front of this lab, what type of
muscle do you think you were using for this lab? Why do you
think that?
2. Why do you think it’s important to stretch or “warm up”
before a workout or sports activity?
