May/June 2014 • VOLUME 12 ISSUE 3
Dear Valued Delta Community Member,
The ability to conveniently access data and information has completely transformed
the world we live and work in today in ways few of us could have imagined. As the
benefits of technology continue to evolve, businesses will be challenged to adapt to
these emerging technologies while managing the flow of information to consumers in a responsible, effective way.
Letter From
The CEO
The advent of the Internet opened new horizons for business learning and interaction. Internet users worldwide have increased by over one
billion in the past five years, proving just how powerful and pervasive this communication tool has become in a relatively short period of time.
Today, mobile technology is redefining how we access information. According to data analysts, there has been a 500% increase in Smartphone
users and more than 70 million new tablet users within the U.S. in the past five years alone.
The implications of these staggering numbers are profoundly important for businesses, especially in determining optimal ways to share
information with consumers in ways they want and in a format that’s both convenient and effective. Today, businesses are moving away from
paper communications and embracing a paperless approach, whenever possible. This transition is cost effective, good for the environment and
also what most consumers want in our fast-paced, on-the-go society.
Here at Delta Community Credit Union, we understand that more and more of our members are relying on the digital delivery of information to
meet their lifestyle needs. Time is a fleeting, but highly valued commodity. That’s why we offer Mobile Banking and other convenient electronic
services like eStatements, eAlerts and Online Bill Pay. Of course, we’re always looking for ways to improve your experience as a member of the
Credit Union. We’re working on some really exciting enhancements to our Online and Mobile Banking services now, which we plan to make
available to members in the coming months.
In keeping with the trend many businesses have adopted to reduce the number of paper communications with consumers, we’re changing
the way we deliver Insights, our member newsletter. After this issue, we will no longer be mailing paper copies of the publication to members.
Subsequent issues will be delivered electronically in a new, easy-to-read digital format that complements our brand and provides you with the
same great content you’ve come to appreciate and expect as an Insights reader. Delivering Insights digitally also allows us to eliminate postage
costs associated with mailing the publication, which helps us to continue to protect the value we offer you as a member of Delta Community.
How we access information and the impact technology will continue to have on our everyday lives are really exciting. As your Credit Union, we
will continue to look for ways to provide you with convenient access to information related to Delta Community, your financial business with us
and how you can get the most value out of your membership.
Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to serve your financial needs.

Here’s the good news. Despite these yearly increases in expenses,
Delta Community Credit Union has found a way to lend a helping hand.
Instead of simply giving Quarterlifers tips on how to prepare for college costs, the
Credit Union offers a Scholarship Program to assist members in paying for their
college expenses. How awesome is that? This is definitely the type of member
benefit that makes me proud to have Delta Community as my banking institution.

Although it was fun learning about the candidates, it was not easy making
the final selections. From impressive academic achievement, overwhelming
community service hours and beautifully written essays, these candidates were
amazing! There were only five slots, so the competition was stiff. I am proud
to have played a part in choosing this year’s recipients. Learn more about this
year’s winners on Page 3.
I wish all of this year’s applicants much success during their academic careers. If
you’re in college or will be soon, be sure to apply next year for Delta Community’s
Scholarship Program. In the meantime, check out some of the many financial
resources for students at DeltaCommunityCU.com/Quarterlife.

Recently, I had the amazing opportunity to be a part of the committee responsible
for selecting this year’s Delta Community Scholarship Program recipients. Earlier
this year, over 400 eligible members pursuing their first undergraduate degree
applied for their share of $20,000 in scholarship awards. The three $5,000 awards
and two $2,500 awards are funded directly to each recipient’s college of choice
to help with tuition, books, meal plans and lodging.

Planning for college, but not sure how
to afford it? Let’s face it – college costs are getting
ridiculous! Each year, college expenses continue to soar, leaving
students and their families struggling to foot these astronomical bills.

Home Owner Tips From An
Insurance Partner You Can Trust
Warmer weather is finally here. Homeowners everywhere are planting flowers and getting their yards
in order. It’s also a great time to perform much-needed maintenance on your house, preventing
costly repairs in the future. Here are a few suggestions from Members Insurance Advisors, a wholly
owned subsidiary of Delta Community Credit Union, to help keep your home in tip-top shape:
Home Owner Tips From An Insurance Partner You
Can
Trust
Clean your gutters.
Leaf and
dirt buildup can stain exteriors and even begin to rot some of the trim and boards on your home. Repair loose
What to do outside your home
gutters and check for loose or damaged shingles on your roof.
Stay cool. And save energy while you’re at it. Ensure the area around your A/C unit is free from plant growth and weeds. Spraying down the
sides of the unit with water after mowing the lawn will help increase efficiency. Change your air filters regularly.
Wash your home exterior. Leave pressure washing to the pros, but you can wash the exterior of your home with a mild detergent and
a garden hose. Replace missing or damaged caulk on doors or windows. This helps prevent water damage and reduces energy bills by
preventing outside air from entering your home.
Prevent yard flooding. Fill in any low areas in your yard or near the house foundation with compacted soil. Allowing water to pool can cause
foundation damage, flooding and provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects.
Inspect your chimney. This is best left to a professional chimney sweep. An inspection now can ensure sufficient time to complete repairs
and make sure your family stays safe and warm next winter.
What to do inside your home
Replace smoke detector batteries. Make sure all smoke detectors are working properly and have fresh batteries.
Check your dryer. Without proper maintenance, a clothes dryer can easily cause a house fire. In addition to regularly cleaning the lint
drawer, clean the vent system annually from the dryer to the exterior vent.
Use an advanced power strip. As you dust around your electronics, check out how they’re plugged in. By using an advanced power strip,
you can reduce your energy consumption and lower your power bill.
Clean light fixtures. Clean bulbs and light fixtures are more efficient as dust
absorbs light. When replacing bulbs, look for energy efficient options that will save
you money in the long run and help avoid frequent replacements.
Breathe clean air. Dust fan blades and clean bathroom fan covers, as well as
your kitchen stove hood. The amount of dirt and dust that collects in your air
ducts increases over time, and if you have done renovations or have pets, that
compounds the problem. Consult with a professional if you feel you could benefit
from having your air ducts cleaned. And if you have an attic fan, check to ensure it’s
working properly. This will help save cooling costs.
Follow these tips to keep your home safe and in good condition. Your
homeowners insurance is key, especially for those things beyond your control.
Contact Members Insurance Advisors at 404-677-8652 or 1-866-444-4617*

you money on your premium.

our 24/7/365 worldwide service allows you to get an
Emergency Replacement Visa card sent to you if yours
is lost or stolen within 24 hours. You can also receive an
Emergency Cash Disbursement up to $5,000 within 24

If you’re traveling this summer, make sure you have your
Delta Community Visa with you at all times. This one card is a
savings, protection and rewards-earning tool designed to make
all your travel purchases hassle-free.
Here are some tips to make your travel all about creating fun
memories – and saving too!
Earn and Redeem Points In One Place
Did you know you can book, redeem and earn points through
our one-stop travel system on the Reward Points website? You
can use your Reward Points to redeem toward car rentals, hotels,
cruises and air travel. When booking airline tickets on our Reward
Points site, there are no blackout dates. And if you need to use
your Delta Community Visa Credit Card to pay the balance, you
earn points on that transaction, too.
Travel Safe with our Card Protection Features
Wherever you go, you’re protected with your
Delta Community Visa Credit Card.
•The Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver* is effective
immediately when you use your Visa Credit Card to rent a car.
This supplemental insurance is effective after your primary
coverage for the repair or replacement of a damaged vehicle.
Things to Do and Know, Before You Go
•Traveling overseas? Give us a call before you leave so we can
ensure that your travel experience is a good one. Contact us
at 1-800-544-3328.
•Merchants in European countries are more familiar with
Europay, MasterCard and Visa (EMV) chip-enabled cards than
the majority of U.S.-issued cards which have a magnetic stripe.
You may need to instruct merchants about swiping instead of
inserting the card into the terminal.
•Have the confidence of knowing that purchases for certain
items are covered if they’re stolen or damaged with our
Purchase Security* protection benefit up to $500.
•With our Warranty Manager Service,* you can register
and extend the current warranty of an item you purchased
with your Visa Credit Card. After your primary warranty has
ended, certain items are covered for up to an additional five
years from the date of purchase. Restrictions apply.
•If you’re ever stranded on the highway, your Visa Credit Card
offers access to a 24/7 on-demand Roadside Dispatch
Service. This emergency pay-per-use roadside service is
available should you have a flat tire, need a battery boost,
locksmith, fuel delivery or tow.
•As you go about your travels, use your Delta Community Visa
Check Card to withdraw a sufficient amount of currency to
pay for transportation and other nominal purchases. You’ll
probably receive a better foreign currency exchange rate than
the rates at currency exchange outlets.
Your foreign purchases are cheaper when you use your
Delta Community Visa Credit Card. We only assess a 1% foreign
exchange fee versus the 3% assessed by most other issuers on
purchases made abroad.
Be safe during your travels and don’t forget to make memories
using your Delta Community Visa Credit Card as you go.
* Terms, conditions and restrictions apply. Please visit DeltaCommunityCU.com/CardBenefits for detailed information about our card protection features and services.
