WOW,wherehasthetimegone!Justayearago,thenewGAEOP
Executiveboardwassworninforthe2014‐15year.Ihavebeenso
fortunatethispastyeartohavehadagreatgroupofladiestowork
with.Eachoftheseladieshasmadetremendouscontributionsandhas
beenwillingtotaketimeoutoftheirlivestoworkonyourbehalf,and
theydiditwithstyle.Afewofthemhaveevenfoundthattheyhave
hiddentalents.A“BIG”thankstoDanielleKitchenfordoingafabulous
jobaseditorof“TheLINK”.WehaveSAILEDthroughthisprocess,
provingthatanythingcanbeaccomplishedtogether.
Iwouldalsoliketoacknowledgethosethatwillberetiringsoon(see
page2).Ihaveworkedinthedistrictfor18+years,andIhavehadtheprivilegetowork
withgreatladies.Iwanttowishthemthebestfortheupcomingyears.Theyare
fortunateenoughtogoandexploretheworld,enjoytheirtimewithlovedones,orjust
kickbackanddoabsolutelynothing.AspecialthankyoutoSandyMamales.Icannot
begintotellyouhowvaluableshehasbeentothedistrict,GAEOP,andtome,asafriend.
Idonotknowwhatshewilldowithoutmyweekly(sometimesdaily)phonecalls.She
willbemissed!
IamexcitedfortheupcomingyearasPresident.Itistruewhattheysay….new
experiencescanonlymakeyouabetterperson.Iwanttothankallofthoseof ice
professionalsthatcontinuetosupportGAEOP.Withoutmembership,wewouldnothave
anExecutiveboardoranassociationtogiveustheprofessionaldevelopmentopportunities,
quarterlytrainings,andthechancetonetworkwithfellowof iceprofessionalstomakeus
bettereveryday.
IlookforwardtoseeingallyoursmilingfacesonJune10th.Comeandjoinusto“Take
ControlofyourFuture!”Comepreparedtolearn,andhaveagreattimewithyour

statemostofthetime,learningnewbudgets,accountingandEVERYTHINGelsethatgoeswiththisjob.Iamlovingit
andtryingtodomybest.MyhusbandandIhave4children,andanewlyadoptedBorderCollie.Ouroldest2children
areservingLDSmissionsintheIllinoisChicagoWestMissionandtheWashingtonSpokaneMission.Theywillbehome
inJuneandJulyofthisyearandwecanhardlywait.Ourother2childrenareathome,onejust inishedher irstyearat
SnowCollageandtheotherisasophomoreatGrangerHighSchool.IlovetospendtimeatourcabininSco ieldthatmy husbandandIbuilt.

technologyischangingsorapidlyitisdif iculttokeepupotherwise.We
can’trelyonthewaywedidthings20–oreven5yearsagoandhopewewill
beeffectiveandef icienttoday.IamgratefulourDistrictoffersandprovides
classesandprofessionallearningopportunitiesforus;weonlyhavetotakethemwhentheyareoffered.
Oneofthebestwaystolearnistospendtimewithsecretarieswhoareinnovativethinkersandinvesttheirtimein
learningnewskills.IhavebeeninroundtablediscussionswheresomeonemakesacommentthattriggersathoughtI
maynothaveconsideredbefore.Ideasgetbouncedaroundandyoucanalmostfeeltheenergyandexcitementinthe
group.Ilovecomingupwithsolutionstoproblemsbecauseitmakesmemoreef icientatmyjob.I’veneverunderstood
peoplewhodon’twanttolearnhowtodosomethingnew.Ihaveheardthemsay“IfIlearnhowtodothatthenthey’llask
metodoitfromnowonandIhavetoomuchtodoalready.Letsomeoneelsedoit.”
WhilelivinginRussia18yearsago,Icametoknowanamazingwoman.JoyHeinerwasinher70’satthetimeandwas
stilleagertolearnandstayactive.ShewasproudofthefactthatshehadgraduatedfromcollegeinCaliforniaatage67–
alongsidehergrandson.Shewasalivingremindertomethatwearenevertoooldtolearn.
Aswecontinuetogainnewskillsandknowledgewehavetousethem.TheoldadagePracticeMakesPerfecthastruth.
Wemayforgetwhatwelearnifwedon’tuseandapplyit.Wecanalsolearnnewskillsbetterifwearewillingtoteach
themtosomeoneelse.AbrahamLincolnsaid,“Idon’tthinkmuchofamanwhoisnotwisertodaythanhewasyesterday.”
Farewell to Friends

Today,IwritetoalltheOf iceProfessionalsandfriendsinGranite
SchoolDistricttosay“Good‐Bye.”OnJune30,2015,Iwillretireand
startanewadventure.However,Icouldn’tleavewithoutsharingmy
mostcherishedthoughtsaboutmyyearsofservingasaboardmember,
whichledmetoservefourtermsastheGAEOPPresident.Ilookback
andseewhereIwasandwhereIamtoday.Icouldn’thaveachievedmy
goalsforGAEOPwithouttheinputfromeachofyouortheladieswho
stoodbymeandworkedtomakethingsbetterforeveryone.
Talkingaboutmemories,Iremembertheyearweaskedforadditional
trainingandDr.GourleyandDr.Bates(whowasasAssistant
Superintendentatthetime)weresohappytograntustimetobe
releasedfromourjobsandtheybothhadsomeideasforthosetraining
sessions.Wemadesuchin‐roadswithallthedepartmentsthattrained
theof iceprofessionals.Eachtrainingmademeappreciateallwho
helpedmakethesetrainingssuccessfulandseetheassociationcontinuetogrow.Ilovedgreetingeachofyouandgetting
toknowyou.
IappreciatedtheopportunityIhadtoattendlocal,stateandnationalconferences.Mymostmemorabletripsinclude
BostonandSouthCarolina.Thenetworkingwithladiesfromalloverthecountryandtimespentwithmydearfriends
fromGranitewillalwaysbeclosetomyheart.Itistheseexperiencesthathelpedmebecomeabetterof iceprofessional
andleader.Iencourageeachofyoutoparticipateintheseactivities.
Iwillalwaysremembereachofyouandcherishourfriendships.IwishGAEOPcontinuedsuccessandgrowth.Youarethe
starsthatshinebrightlyandwillleadtheof iceprofessionalsofGraniteSchoolDistrictintothefuture.Happynew
