Chief R. J. Thomas performed admirably as our Master of Ceremonies guiding us through a memorable ceremony.
The US Marine Memorial Team posted the colors and our Girl Scouts led all of us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Lyssa Galbreath did a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem and Father James Vasquez gave the
First Responder Blessing. Emergency Management Coordinator, Bill Haines offered a community welcome and
Noreen Wylie read the very moving poem, ’One”.

Once again David Erickson presented his interpretation of ‘God Bless the USA’. Robert Carlson offered a ‘Remember 9/11
Prayer and John Felix read the names of the Texas victims pausing after each for Howard Gillespie to ring the bell.
The ceremony closed with a 21 Gun Salute and Taps by the US Marine Memorial Team.
Thank you to all who worked to make this happen but most of all, Thank You to our 1st Responders.
In a very special tribute, our
Mooseketeers researched 9/11
and created a poster showing images from that day along with a
star for each company that lost
someone. They also designed and
made a US Flag.
Everyone was treated to a yummy
brisket dinner
This is very important. Remember, most of these young people were not
born in 2001 so this is history. If we don’t pass this along,
soon no one will Remember 9/11!

From the Governor’s Desk
Wow what a fun time we had at the
state meeting, I haven't been much help
being in the hospital but I can tell you
something every member took up the
slack. The month went by fast and
things went well from the dinners to
working on the lodge and the school
rebuilding project is going well. We have
a busy month with moose legion celebration coming up so let's all help and
have some fun. I thank you all for your
prayers and thoughts while I was in the
Hospital God bless you all. We have Two
new officers at state and they are Bob
Carlson and Wildman. Byron Kevin and
Myself also serve along with our District
President Raymond Drysdale Thank you
all for your service along with our coworkers.
Robert Vaden, Governor
Senior Regents Corner
I want to start by going back to August.
Jeannette’s 4-Corners Dinner was a hit!
Each team decorated their serving area,
cooked three dishes and served up a
terrific meal. Great job Jeannette!
The 9-11 Ceremony was a time to remember all the brave heroes and lost
souls. The Mooseketeers did an excellent job on the 9-11 Remembrance
Board. Thank you kids and Christine.
I had a great time at the State Convention in Houston. And once again I can
say that every Moose member and coworker that I met greeted me with a
smile and friendly hand shake.
Lisa K has a ‘picnic’ basket raffle going.
A dollar a ticket or 6 for 5—get your tickets while you can.
We are having bake sales for Toys From
Tommy Moose on Steak Night and Burg-
er Night, breakfast every Sunday and
donation boxes at the door.
Tween Dances have started and are
once a month.
Come have dinner on the 26th. Betty is
hosting a ‘Really Special’ Mexican Dinner.
The following day the Los Paisanos are
having their Thanksgiving Benefit. Brisket sandwiches and auction at 3PM.
Our next benefit will be October 11th for
Zeke Ortiz. Volunteers, auction items
and baked goods are needed to help
this sweet young man and is family.
Congratulations to Gypsie! She was
awarded her Green Cap at the Convention.
See you at the Lodge!!

Words From Our Administrator
Let’s see what’s happening – it might
be easier to say “What’s NOT Happening”. It’s been a busy September, October and November are looking even
busier. September, 9/11 Remberance
Ceremony, TMA State Convention, Pisano’s Turkey Benefit – for families in
need; October “Zeke’s” benefit, a 9 year
old with leukemia, Halloween Children’s
party; November a benefit for one of us,
Wildman, to help him and Gypsie with
expenses while he unable to work after
surgery, “Toys from Tommy Moose Benefit”. I was speaking to a potential new
member yesterday and she asked how
did we do all of this? My answer was we
have a wonderful bunch of people who
really enjoy doing things for others less
fortunate than they are.
We are having a District 7 meeting Oc-
tober 4th. In San Antonio @ 10am. Our
new District President, Raymond Drysdale, would really like to see more
Moose’s from Aransas Pass there to set
an example for the other lodges. If you
haven’t been to a District Meeting
please consider going.
We are also having our Gold Coast 68
Moose Legion Celebration at our lodge
on October 18-19th. If you’re not a
Moose Legionnaire I am sure you can
find someone at the Lodge to help you
become one. It’s really a lot of fun; and
you get to know folks from Corpus, San
Antonio and Pasadena, and you can
brag about our lodge. The Moose Legion is the “engine” that makes the
Moose Fraternity “GO”. The Moose Legion MOTTO is “Do some good thing for
someone each day”.
Thank you all for what you do.

Marigolds are the
"Herb of the Sun"
symbolic of passion and creativity. Water made from marigolds was thought to induce psychic visions of
fairies if rubbed on the
eyelids. In some cultures,
marigold flowers have
been added to pillows to
encourage prophetic or
psychic dreams. Early
Christians named the
flower "Mary's Gold" and
offered the blossoms in
place of money at the foot
of her statues. The Portuguese introduced marigolds into India and the
flower was offered to the
Hindu gods Vishnu and
Lakshmi. The marigold
was thought to protect
against the plague and to
be effective in stopping
gossip. When used in
combination with spells,
the marigold is an antidote for the sharptongued and promotes
cheery conversations.

the Moose Legion Celebration. Wildman

Moose Legion Celebration
October 18th
It’s our turn to host the Moose Legion
Celebration and I promise you it will be
a fantastic one. The theme is ‘Charlie
Brown and The Great Pumpkin Patch’.
So decide whether you want to be Lucy,
Schroder, Snoopy, Linus …….. ( I think
Noreen has claimed Pigpen). Lunch will
be soup, salad and sandwiches (there
should be some PBJ’s due to the theme)
and Dinner will be a taco bar along with
lots of other sides and goodies. Gaila is
thinking up challenging games for the
Tin Man and Twyla has lots of plans for
other activities. If any of you are thinking about becoming a Moose Legionnaire, contact any one of the Moose
Legionnaires and they will be happy to
sign you up. I HOPE that this time we
will be able to keep the Tin Man in
Aransas Pass—it’s been gone too long!
We haven’t had a
German meal in
long time and we can’t let October come
and go without celebrating. Our ‘theme’
meals are always the best attended and
we usually sell out of food so you better
come early. It’s not required, but if you
really want to wear your lederhosen go Enchilada Dinner—October 24th
right ahead!
There is a rare treat in store! Sharon is
making her ‘fantabulous’ enchiladas for
October 31st
WHEW! Lots of stuff going on that night.
Who doesn’t like a giant, stuffed baked
potato? If you haven’t experienced our
potato bar; you get a giant baked potato
and a selection of yummy things to put
ON your giant baked potato. Everyone is
free to bring whatever topping you like
and would like to share. We usually get
a huge variety.
Our Annual Kids Halloween Carnival
always draws lots of princesses, ghosts,
goblins and a myriad of other creatures.
The kids have a great time but I think
the adults enjoy it just as much. I do
notice that as the evening progresses
there are more ‘big people’ in the Cake
Walk ….. They just can’t resist our desserts!
Christine is having her Halloween Tween
Dance immediately following the Carnival. She should have a good showing of
slightly older creatures and crritters.

Why Should I Become a Moose Legionnaire?
There are many, many answers to that
question, so I will tell you why I became a
Moose Legionnaire. I originally joined the
Loyal Order of Moose in 1982. I was invited to join the Moose Legion a few months
later, where I learned more about what we
do and why we do it, and how it all started.
I got more involved within this smaller
number of Members, doing more fun
things, and believe me, More work for the
Children at Mooseheart and the aged at
Moosehaven. It was the most rewarding
thing to me, made me realize there was
more work to be done. As a new Moose
Legionaire, I was with many of my Brothers at the Shriners Circus, helping them
escort the disabled children and older
folks off busses in Corpus Christi one year.
That alone left me wanting to do MORE,
just seeing the smiles and the great time
those folks had made all the effort worth
more than money could buy. A couple
years later it was time for me to leave the
area, ( I was Active duty Navy) so I
dropped my membership for a couple
years, and I missed it so much, I rejoined
in 1992, in both the Loyal Order of Moose
and the Moose Legion. I again got active
in everything that was going on, all the
everyday things around the Lodge, all the
things that Moose Legionnaires do to
help. I have been around a long time.
The Best answer to the question
is……….Because I Care about My Brothers
and Sisters, and the People in this world
that need OUR Help.

None of the "witches"
put to death in the
Salem Witch trials
were burned at the
stake. All those executed were hanged
but one, Giles Cory,
who was pressed to
death. Several others
died in prison, including Sarah Osborne,
Roger Toothaker,
Lyndia Dustin, and
Ann Foster.
There are many theories
on the origin of Halloween, but it is generally
accepted that it dates
back to the Celtic festival
Samhain. It was believed
that the spirits of everyone who had died during
the year returneed on the
eve of Samhain to seek
living bodies to possess
for the following year. The
Celts would dress in costumes and hold noisy revels in an attempt to frighten away these spirits.
Food and drink was also
offered to pacify the dead.
There are many tales of
unfortunate souls being
burned at the stake because they were perceived to have been possessed by one of the returning spirits.
