Just over two years ago, AD reported on parish support for Pastor Janaki Menni in
Andhra Pradesh, India, in the midst of challenges to the work of FIAM ( Faith in
Action Ministries), caused by cyclones. Janaki is visiting again, and will be speaking
on the topic of prayer at the Ash Wednesday Communion service at 8pm on
March 1st at Holy Trinity Church Deanshanger.
and taking part in other events in this area and the UK, following an international
conference for Christian leaders in Derbyshire.
FIAM continue to plant churches in villages, have re-opened and are developing
their school, and run many social projects, including among street children, the
elderly, young women and in health care. Prayerful and financial support locally has
been generous to help this charity back on its feet, and some of the results of that
are shown in the pictures below :
Please come and join us and listen to Janaki’s inspiring story

Dear Friends
What frightens you most? Terrorism, illness, death?
One of the things that frightens me most is the way in which technology is taking over
our lives. The most visible example of this is the way many people are attached to their
smart phones. Of course, they are a marvellous invention and extremely useful.
However, they do seem to distract people from the ‘real world’ and have a tendency to
become master instead of servant. How sad that someone’s leisurely enjoyment of the
countryside, appreciation of a work of art, or absorption in a relaxing, creative hobby,
can be so readily broken into by that little box of wizardry. How rude, that in the
middle of a conversation, or interaction with someone, this clamouring collection of
metal, plastic and circuitry can take preference.
Perhaps the worst example is when you see a family out for a meal together, sitting
around their table in silence, eyes looking away from each other and glued to a phone
or tablet.
This technology encourages some people to become isolated rather than developing
relationships, being stimulated by their environment or developing creatively. Most of
the young men who have been responsible for dreadful acts of shooting at schools and
other public places are the worst products of this isolation.
May we treat these potential aids to modern life discerningly, and teach our children
and grandchildren to do likewise.
Yours in Christ
Rev Chris Murray

Elly and Rosemary are both members of Deanshanger’s Holy Trinity Church and have inspired the congregation to follow in their footsteps and support Newlife. The duo’s varied
and creative fundraising ideas span from jewellery and card making to creating wooden
‘fairy doors’ and pyrography (the art of burning pictures into wood.) Other fundraising
events have included a car wash, sponsored walk, jewellery sales and a sing-a-thon.
