E - Recording Dear Valued Customer, Surry County Register of Deeds Carolyn Comer has announced a new innovation and has entered into agreements with current Land Records Vendor Courthouse Computer Systems, Inc. Chapel Hill based company and Electronic Document Logistics (EDL) to offer electronic recording services to filers of land records in the Register of Deeds office. The company has been currently working with the Register of Deeds’ and staff, training and testing the electronic recording processes and procedures for the last three to four months with virtually no flaws. We have successfully E-Recorded fourteen documents. E-recording is a process of submitting, receiving and processing documents via the internet FROM TRUSTED SUBMITTERS that have traditionally been sent to the recorder’s office by runner, express mail or regular mail system. Anyone wishing to file their document will have to submit a (MOU) memorandum of understandings before being allowed to E-record the documents. This will be a painless step which will make this a more secured process. With this new service, This technology will be a new phase for Surry County recorders. At this time Surry the Register of Deeds is only accepting cancellations from attorneys and banks before moving into all document systems at this time. During Comers tenure as Register of Deeds, which began in December 2004, the office has completed numerous automation projects to improve the efficiency of the office. Electronic recording will be added to these automation improvements and accomplishments. As your public servant in this office I will continue to provide exceptional customer service at no further cost to tax paying citizens. The benefits of E-recording: Safety and Document Security – Filing electronically decreases document loss and Increased security.
