COOK TO WIN!
Our highly-regarded Culinary Arts program has won
major awards at some of the most competitive culinary
contests in the country.
• Minutes from downtown Seattle, a thriving
hospitality and tourism hub.
• Diverse student body that represents a variety of
educational and professional backgrounds.
• Team-oriented projects that mirror the working
environment.
• Transferable skills that enable you to work
anywhere in the world.
Hospitality industry leaders recognize that the Culinary
Arts program at South Seattle Community College provides
outstanding culinary arts training. Our culinary instructors
work closely with the hospitality industry to train
students in all facets of food production, including food
preparation, service training and hospitality management.
Food management classes train students in inventory
control, operations analysis, purchasing, productions,
supervision, and personal management. Students prepare
for careers in dining room service, food production,
and supervision for hotel, restaurant, catering, and
institutional food service operations.
The program provides a realistic learning environment for
students. On-site training facilities include a food court
and two restaurants – Café Alki, and the Alhadeff Grill,
both offering traditional dining. These facilities meet
the demands of educational training, accommodate host
guest chefs and serve as a demonstration site for industry
professionals.
Alumni
Alumni of the Culinary Arts program at South are
working today at the Four Seasons, Serefina, Emerald
Cove Catering, the Space Needle and other fine
restaurants both locally and nationally.
Evan Kim was one of seven students selected
worldwide to participate in the first International Tapas Competition in Valladolid,
Spain. He is also a Team Gold and Individual
Bronze medal winner in ACF Junior Hot Food
competitions.
Culinary Arts
South’s Culinary Arts program offers a five-quarter
certificate and six-quarter AAS degrees in Restaurant
& Food Service Production, Catering and Banquet
Operations, and Food and Wine Pairing.
Learning takes place in a realistic environment, where
students practice skills in campus dining settings. The
AAS-T degree in Culinary Arts is a pathway to South
Seattle Community College’s Bachelor of Applied Science
(BAS) degree in Hospitality Management.
“What excited me about South’s Culinary
Arts program was that from day one
you are learning in a production
environment. Once I f inished the program
it was easy to land a full-time position
in a f ine-dining establishment. I’ve
found that South’s Culinary Arts is
well known for producing high-quality
employees throughout the restaurant
industry.”
