5 Ways to Maintain Baby's Sleep Schedule While Traveling
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
*If baby's not happy, nobody's happy. Use these tips to keep your
little one rested and in a good mood on your next trip.
Keep baby feeling safe and secure by following the same naptime and bedtime routine that you do at
home. Bring along her favorite books, toys and blankets, especially those that she associates with
napping and bedtime.
When possible, try to include lots of outdoor activities during the day, but stay close to home (that is,
where you are staying) in the evening to help your baby wind down and fall asleep for the night.
Buy a good travel crib. Investing in a sturdy travel crib that offers good support and a comfortable
mattress will pay off in better rest for baby—and for you.
Bring along a source of soothing background noise for baby's room: baby's nighttime CDs, a sleep
sounds app for your mobile device or sound machine.
Plan your daily activities around your baby's nap schedule. If possible, let him sleep at least once per
day in the travel crib or bed where he will be sleeping at night.

ART
One-year-olds recognize different qualities in music, and respond with their whole bodies to rhythm, beat and melody.
Their interest in art is focused on the sensory exploration of art materials, such as paint and clay. The options for art
projects at this age are limited by a one-year-old's undeveloped hand dexterity. Children this age make an important
developmental leap by beginning to pretend during play, often by imitating adult movements.
 Uses senses to explore what art materials can do (e.g., scribbles with jumbo crayons, uses fingers to swirl finger
paint or shaving cream, squeezes oily molding dough).
 Takes pleasure in exploring the textures of art materials (e.g., finger paints with abandon, squeezes play dough
through fingers and squeals).
 Explores basic art tools and materials (those that do not demand great manual dexterity) to see how they work (e.g.,
scribbles with chalk, finger paints on a tray, makes crayon dots on paper).
 Shows a preference for particular textures and art experiences (e.g., delights in squeezing slick doughs).
ART
3 & 4-year-olds have growing control over their voices and can recognize, name and sing their favorite songs. They can play
simple rhythm instruments with a developing ability to control beat, tempo and pitch. Their art also begins to include
recognizable subjects. 3 & 4-year-olds love dramatic play, and will sometimes get so involved in their imagined scenarios
that they continue their roles even after the play stops. They also prefer to use real objects and costumes in their pretend
play.

Creates unplanned art, but may assign content to the image after the fact (e.g., when finished with a drawing,
announces, "This is my kitty, Fluffy.").

Chooses colors and media that match his or her mood (e.g., may paint pictures in black and brown while dealing with
divorcing parents).

Builds on knowledge of basic art techniques to make mobiles and assemblages (e.g., hangs leaves collected on a
nature walk from a hanger).

Can describe what is pleasing about his or her own art (e.g., asks you to hang his or her art on the wall because it is a
"happy" painting).

way to contact a Supervisor is via cell phone! “Supervisor Cell Phones,” are used STRICKLY for PARENT &
TEACHER COMMUNICATION! You may reach our Supervisors on their cell phones through a normal voice
call OR through text messaging! If leaving a voicemail message or sending a text outside of the work DAY, please allow 24
hours for a response. If leaving a voicemail message or sending a text outside of the work WEEK (holidays or weekends),
please allow 48 hours for a response. Although your calls/text messages will most likely be answered within a few minutes,
we want to give our Supervisors ample time to address all questions and concerns.
