PROCEDURE STUDENT VOICE AWARD FOR DISTANCE EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR Procedure | Responsibilities | Definitions | Related Legislation and Documents 1 PURPOSE The Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year has been established to recognise Course Coordinators who have achieved the highest Overall Satisfaction Score and meet all eligibility criteria with regard to their distance student cohort. This achievement will be determined by quantitative data collected through the student evaluation of courses process. Each year there will normally be one recipient of the Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year, based on eligibility criteria and course evaluation data, determined from three terms that end in the year of the Award. Course Co-ordinators who do not achieve the highest Overall Satisfaction Score, but meet all other eligibility criteria, will receive a Student Voice Commendation to recognise their achievement. Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year A Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year consists of: 1 Funding of $2500 per recipient, provided by Learning and Teaching Services (LTS), for the recipient to use to enhance learning and teaching practices. 2 A memento. 3 Recognition of achievement by: • Publicity in CQUniversity’s staff newsletters and student newsletters, and • CQUniversity Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year certificate and memento, presented at the annual CQUniversity Staff Awards Ceremony. Student Voice Commendation A Student Voice Commendation consists of: Recognition of achievement by: • publicity in UniNews, • acknowledgement at the CQUniversity Staff Awards Ceremony, and • CQUniversity Student Voice certificate of commendation. 2 SCOPE This procedure applies to all CQUniversity Course Co-ordinators, TAFE Course Co-ordinators, or institutional associates who co-ordinate any CQUniversity course offering, which is evaluated through the Student Evaluation of Courses process. 3 EFFECTIVE DATE 4 LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY 22 October 2015 Central Queensland University Act 1998 Qld Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year Procedure Reference Number/Code: 2464 Effective Date: 22/10/2015 Page 1 of 3 Once PRINTED, this is an UNCONTROLLED DOCUMENT. Refer to Policy Portal for latest version CQUniversity CRICOS Provider Code: 00219C 5 PARENT POLICY There is no parent policy. 6 PROCEDURE Conditions of the Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year 6.1 The Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year funding is to be used to further the learning and teaching practice of the recipient. Examples include: time release or marking relief to enable application for other Learning and Teaching awards; attendance at Learning and Teaching or discipline related conferences or professional development activities; or purchase of equipment or software that will enhance the recipient’s learning and teaching practice (Please note: purchased equipment remains an asset of CQUniversity unless otherwise authorised and all IT equipment must be purchased through Information and Technology Directorate (IaTD), contact [email protected] for further information). 6.2 Any recipient of this Award will be expected to participate in the LTS annual professional development program in the funding period, in order to disseminate their good practice to their peers. 6.3 Award funding is held by the Financial Services Division and will be released after the appropriate Dean, School (or equivalent) and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) have approved the plans for expenditure. A condition of the Award is that the funding is used within 24 months of its presentation. Eligibility Criteria 6.4 All co-ordinators of CQUniversity courses are eligible to be recognised in this Award and Commendation process. In all cases, the Student Voice Award for Educator of the Year and Student Voice Commendations are decided based on course evaluation data retrieved from the Course Performance Dashboard - Course Evaluations. 6.5 The Course Co-ordinator whose course meets all eligibility criteria and achieves the highest Overall Satisfaction Score, as determined by the distance education student cohort, will receive the Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year in that year. 6.6 Course Co-ordinators who do not achieve the highest Overall Satisfaction Score but meet all other eligibility criteria, described in these procedures, will receive Student Voice Commendation in that year. 6.7 The following eligibility criteria apply: • The course must attain an Overall Satisfaction Score of 4.5 or greater, • The course must attain 10 or more responses from the distance education student cohort within the total course enrolments, and • The course must achieve a target response rate percentage, for distance students’ evaluation of the course, of greater than 50% in the required terms. 6.8 There is no restriction on the number of consecutive years a recipient may receive a Student Voice Award or Commendation. Selection of Recipients 6.9 A Student Voice Award for Distance Educator of the Year, or a Student Voice Commendation recipient, will be determined by whether all eligibility criteria are met and by Overall Satisfaction Score data retrieved from CQUniversity’s Course Performance Dashboard - Course Evaluations. 6.10 In selecting recipients, course evaluation data will be considered from Term 3 of the previous year as well as Term 1 and Term 2 of the current year. For example, in identifying the 2012 recipient, evaluations from Term 3 (2011), Term 1 (2012) and Term 2 (2012) will be considered. In the case of a course being offered in more than one term within the three term timeframe, course evaluation data from all terms will be considered. 6.11 In the case of a course involving a teaching team, the Course Co-ordinator will be deemed the team’s representative to receive the Award or Commendation on the team’s behalf. Refer to Policy Portal for latest version CQUniversity CRICOS Provider Code: 00219C Presentation 6.12 The Student Voice Awards for Distance Educator of the Year will normally be presented at the annual CQUniversity Staff Awards Ceremony, hosted at a CQUniversity campus. 6.13 LTS will provide advice to recipients, concerning the arrangements for presentation. 6.14 Student Voice Commendation certificates will be mailed to recipients. 7 RESPONSIBILITIES Compliance, Monitoring and Review 7.1 The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) is responsible for ensuring these procedures are followed. Reporting 7.2 Outcomes of each round of Awards will be reported to the Higher Education Advisory Committee, through the monthly report requirement. Records Management 7.3 All records relevant to this document are to be maintained in a recognised University recordkeeping system. 8 DEFINITIONS Course Performance Dashboard – Course Evaluations Displays results of the overall question from the Course Evaluation Survey conducted through Moodle for each course, each term (this definition may change if the scope of the Dashboard changes).
