Building Our Future
When Nehemiah looked around the city of Judah all he saw was ruin. The wall was destroyed and
the people were so indebted that some were selling themselves into slavery to their fellow
Israelites. He was given permission from King Artaxerxes to rebuild the city and bring hope once
again to his people but it was a massive task. When he discovered that many Israelites were in
poverty he invited them to his table, he refused to collect the taxes that earlier governors collected,
and he focused in on a solution. He writes, "But out of reverence to God I didn't act like that.
Instead, I devoted myself to the work on this wall."
It's easy to look around our community and see problems. Many of our neighborhoods have blight,
there never seem to be enough good paying jobs, and we divide passionately on issues affecting our
county, state, and country. But in the midst of seeming ruin, the words of Nehemiah stand out to
me. Regardless of circumstance he chose to invest in his community. His words were echoed
thousands of years later by reformer Martin Luther when he said, "Even if I knew that tomorrow the
world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree."
I've been encouraged in recent months to see people in our community choose hope over despair.
Whether it is the residents of Warren Street repairing their beautiful brick street, historic
restaurants being restored, or the community coming together to invest in the many needed capital
projects currently going on in our community, good things are happening.

Capital Campaign Update
Pledged: $105,000
Goal (’14-’16): $250,000
Received: $28,000
(continued from previous page)
The board of directors for Love INC are acting on hope as we work to raise needed funds to
continue our work through building updates and renovations. We are currently in the midst of a
$250,000* capital project that will allow us to continue working with local churches to bring
hope to our friends and neighbors in need for many more years. The new parking lot, roof and
office space will be nice, but our ability to continue to invest in the lives of under resourced
neighbors is what continues to excite me. We are choosing to rebuild so that we can continue to
be a part of the hope that so many of us have for the future of Huntington County. It's humbling
to look around this county and see so many people choosing to plant their apple trees,
metaphorically speaking. I hope you'll continue to find ways to join in that good work.

VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT
At Love INC of Huntington County, we have several opportunities for
volunteers who want to serve their community. Volunteers can help
in the food pantry by filling orders, stocking shelves, and unloading
trucks. They can help in the Covered with Love clothing store by
sorting donations, hanging up clothing, or running the cash register.
We also have numerous volunteers who work in our clearinghouse
answering phones, scheduling food pantry orders, doing intakes, and
entering data. But even after all of this, we have several volunteers
who take care of all those tasks that are behind the scenes; the ones
that fall under “all other duties as assigned.”
Pat Pressler, a member at Evangelical United Methodist Church, has
been volunteering at Love INC for several years, yet she spends most
of her volunteer hours outside the building. Pat has taken it upon
herself to call Owens grocery store to ask for their perishable
donations. Twice a week, she walks out with items such as bread, rolls, and milk, which are vital items for our
food pantry. Our neighbors receiving food from the Community Food Pantry receive a better service because
of Pat’s efforts. On top of this, Pat has volunteered in the past during our Back-To-School shopping event and
in our diaper depot.
Thank you so much for your service to this community, Pat!
Love INC is in need of volunteers! Recently, a few of our regular volunteers have been unable to continue
volunteering for various reasons. We are currently in need of volunteers at our receptionist desk as well as
phone operators. The commitment is only once a week for about 3-4 hours at a time (or more if so desired).
If you or someone you know is interested, we welcome them to come down to our office at 715 Byron St or
to call 260-356-0933.

Share your Feast with us!
November 15-16
Again this holiday season, Kroger has chosen the Huntington Community Food Pantry as the
local benefactor of its annual Share Your Feast food drive. This drive encourages customers to
add a bag of groceries to their carts to help feed others within their community. Last year
through your generosity, we received over 3,400 bags of groceries to stock our shelves!
Join Love INC volunteers and STAR 106.9 radio on November 15-16 at Owen's north, 2718
Guilford Street in Huntington, as we kickoff this year's event and work to "Fill the Truck" and
reach our goal of 5,000 this holiday season!
Thanks to those who have supported us in the past, present, and future!
