Research Highlight • Industrial side: TagAssist — RFID-based baggage monitoring system TagAssist provides end-to-end baggage status surveillance service for the airport passengers. It adopts RFID technology for automatic baggage check-in, tracking, and sortation, which significantly alleviates the labor-intensive baggage processing efforts. TagAssist is supported by Hainan Airline (the 2th largest airline company in China) and has already been deployed in Beijing Capital International Airport and Sanya Phenix Airport. Calibrator: Hainan Airline, Tsinghua University • Academic side: Relative localization of RFIDs Radio-based positioning of objects equipped with RFID tags is poised to play a key role in the Internet of Things for libraries, retail business, and next-generation manufacturing. In stead of knowing the absolute location of each tagged objects, libraries, manufacturing lines, and offices of the future all stand to benefit from knowing the exact spatial order of RFID-tagged books, components, and folders, respectively. To this end, we design and implement a set of relative localization systems: OTrack (Infocom’13+TPDS’15), STPP (NSDI’15+ToN’16) and MobiTagbot (MobiSys’16) which can detect and acquire the relative location of the tagged objects in 1-3 cm granularity, without localizing their absolute locations a prior.
