Your Relay $ at work - Canadian Cancer Society

fLive well. Be aware. Get involved.
We’re excited to announce
that, starting this year, we’re
introducing an annual
provincial “prevention theme”
for Relay For Life.
About half of all cancers can
be prevented through healthy
living and policies that
protect the health of
Canadians.
Our overall prevention
program is called “Live well.
Be aware. Get involved”.
Within this program, there
are many ways we can all
make healthy lifestyle
choices.
This year, we have chosen to
focus our theme on eating
well and being active. In
each issue of RelayRap this
year, we will offer
information or tips on food
and exercise choices you can
make to reduce your risk.

With this in mind, the Canadian Cancer Society, Moose Jaw Unit, was
able to provide over $16,000.00 in financial assistance to those who
were not able to afford to get to appointments for treatments or
needed accommodation at the Cancer Patient Lodge in Regina. This
is very important in insuring that everyone gets their treatments.
Our Relay For Life FUNdraising Club recognizes teams that
go above and beyond in their team fundraising. Strive to
hit the team fundraising levels below and join our

People with cancer may need to go to a cancer centre for tests,
consultations and treatments. They may not have their own car and
even if they do, it may not be a good idea to drive themselves if they
are tired or feeling unwell.

Relay corner
Relay For Life is more than just a
fundraiser. It is an opportunity to get
together with family and friends and
celebrate cancer survivors, remember
loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back
in the hope of finding a cure.
Relay is fun and fulfilling, and your
participation gives strength to our
mission to eradicate cancer. In this
inspirational 12-hour overnight event, we
come together and fight to make cancer
history.

Fundraising tips
Start fundraising now! There are many activities
you can do in the fall and winter to raise money for
your team. Here are some suggestions:
Bake for Life – Organize a bake sale at work.
Everyone likes a tasty treat, especially when the
money goes to a good cause.
Sports for Life – Seek donated ice time or a
community centre to host a charity sports
tournament with your friends and family.
Crafts for Life – Do you have a special talent for
making crafts? Sell items at a local craft fair and
let people know that the proceeds will be going to
Relay For Life.
Story for Life – Get your story published in a
community, work or school newsletter. Direct
readers to your online fundraising page to make a
donation.
Sandra Hertes states the following:
Meet the fighters
“I don't
think I did anything except for follow the
web page. I did provide my list with many
updates on the fundraising.
Another thing I did do was make my own page
personal. I didn't just send out a generic
page. Also, my dealing with cancer was so fresh
for the relay, I honestly believe people had
difficulty saying no to me.”
