Wendake, October 20, 2015 – During the federal election of October 19, 2015, Canada answered
the national call for a significant change. The Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador
congratulates the newly Prime Minister elect, Mr. Justin Trudeau, for his significant victory.
The Chief of the AFNQL, Ghislain Picard, requests of the Liberal Party of Canada and the Prime

they face by respecting his electoral platform. He would like to remind Justin Trudeau's of his
words and invites him to start to build a nation-to-nation relationship with First Nations, with
respect and in partnership.
“It is now time for the government of Canada to collaborate in the advancement and in the
defense of the rights of First Nations. We are ready to work and to start a new nation-to-nation
relationship with this new government. However, trust has to be rebuilt. It is essential that the
elected Prime Minister respects the commitments he made in his electoral platform and that he
rectifies the extremely poor conditions that the last ten years have left”, declared Chief Picard.
Chief Picard also wishes to remind the Prime Minister that his government must respect its
promise to begin the implementation of the recommendations contained in the report of the Truth
