INTRODUCTION
On Saturday, 23 April, 5 of our Sixth Form students were
privileged enough to attended a talk by President Barack
Obama. Our students were fortunate enough to sit behind
the President and can be seen in the BBC coverage which
can be watched by following this link:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36119829.
The students enjoyed the talk immensely and we hope they
found it inspiring.
There are only 17 days left until the start of the public
summer examinations. Extra lessons are taking place this
Saturday and we ask that parents ensure their child’s
attendance to these sessions. Pupils involved have been
given a timetable of the planned lessons.

BARACK OBAMA SPEECH
On Saturday, 23 April 2016, five Sixth Form students
attended an inspiring talk by the President of the United
States of America, Barack Obama.
The school’s five students, Ola Adedokun, Tiffany
Ambersley, Benjamin Parker, Julie Tran and Jeremiah Kusi
-Addai, were lucky enough to be sitting only a few rows
behind the President. During his talk, he covered topics
ranging from climate change to education to LBGT and his
legacy.
Ola said about the experience, “He had me hooked to his
every word; the one thing that resonated with me was his
admittance to not knowing everything. That type of
honesty, especially for a president who has to uphold his
status, is amazing.” She went on to say, “To see such an
influential being in my generation was a once in a life time
opportunity”.
During their visit to the talk in London, the students were
also lucky enough to meet and take a photo with Baroness
Karren Brady.

INTOUNIVERSITY
On Wednesday, 27 April, thirty Year 9 pupils visited Sussex
University for the day as part of the First Generation
Scholars Scheme. Having met the student ambassadors
who would be leading them for the day, they had a guided
tour of the campus which is set in the beautiful English
countryside. After a delicious lunch in the canteen they
partook in workshops on Finance and taster sessions in
Neuroscience and History. It was an informative and
wonderful day that gave them an insight into university
life.
RE DEPARTMENT’S REFLECTION
Reflection from John’s Gospel
The Gospel in this week’s reading is
very short and to the point. The
Gospel passage is part of the Final
Discourse that Jesus gave at the
Last Supper.
There are several important messages that Jesus wanted
to leave with his disciples, one of which was the new
commandment – to love one another just as I have loved
you. This should be our agenda for life; to imitate Christ in
his love for us by loving and caring for our neighbour. The
Year of Mercy provides us with extra encouragement to
follow this commandment.
Prayer:
Almighty ever-living God, constantly accomplish the
Paschal Mystery within us, that those you were pleased to
make new in Holy Baptism may, under your protective
care, bear much fruit and come to the joys of life eternal.
GIRLS’ RUGBY
On Tuesday, 26 April 2016, the Year 8 girls’ Rugby
team played in the Middlesex Emerging Schools
Tournament and they were the only undefeated team on
the day, winning the tournament!
The girls have transformed as a team and this win was a
great achievement for the girls, who three months ago had
never played the sport! The girls have moved mountains,
persevered and have been so committed and dedicated to
learning— their hard work has really paid off!
Father you told your disciples that you would not be with
them much longer because you had to return to your
father in heaven. Help us to follow the commandment that
you gave us: ‘To love one another; just as you love us’.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and
reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for
ever and ever.
Amen
It doesn’t stop here for this group; four of the girls have
been invited to the Haringey Select Gifted and Talented
Group were they will receive coaching from professional
England Rugby coaching staff and county coaches to
develop their skills even further.
