Job Purpose
The Metro Centre in Greenwich operates The Greenwich Sexual Health Office on behalf of NHS
Greenwich and is the main contact for Greenwich residents accessing information relating to
sexual Heath and Contraception Services in the borough. The office coordinates the delivery of
The National Chlamydia Screening Programme (NCSP) on behalf of NHS Greenwich and also
manages client results relating to the NCSP and The Metro Centre Pitstop+ clinics.
The SHOA will take the lead in the administration of the local Chlamydia screening programme
in Greenwich. The post holder will have the responsibility for ensuring that data is collected and
that an accurate database is maintained; providing support to the Chlamydia Screening
Programme Manager (CSPM) to ensure timely delivery of data to the Health Protection Agency.
The SHOA will maintain client notes in relation to the Pitstop+ & Penelope’s Pitstop clinics
updating client’s results on a day to day basis into their personnel files and maintaining an
accurate database. They will manage calls through to the SHO and refer clients to appropriate
services in the borough.
The SHOA work closely with and support The Chlamydia Screening Outreach Team Leader.
They will liaise with organisations across the borough, building and maintaining relationships
with Educational, Youth and Corporate venues as well as hard to reach groups. They will
arrange bookings on behalf of the outreach team in order to engage with young people to offer
Chlamydia screening and signposting into sexual health and contraception services. They will
forward plan and coordinate the outreach diaries so that screening targets are met.

Job Functions/ Responsibilities
1. To collate data for The Chlamydia Screening Program; maintaining, and documenting
accurate and up-to-date programme databases and other Programme information including
site details. Ensure confidentiality of data, particularly when dispatching data to external
agencies, and have an awareness / understanding of data protection issues.
2. Monitor screening trends ensuring adverse trends or issues are brought to the attention of
the CSPM.
3. To ensure positive Chlamydia patients are contacted and treated within NCSP timelines by
liaising with Pharmacies and other treatment providers. Initiate partner notification,
contacting partners on behalf of positive clients ensuring confidentiality and ensuring they
receive treatment.
4. Maintain accurate client files and databases related to The Metro Centres Pitstop+ &
Penelope’s Pitstop Clinics, contacting clients and referring them into services for treatment
when required or referring back to The Metro Centre Nurse for follow up.
5. Answering incoming calls to The Sexual Health Office in a non-judgemental and supportive
manor, referring clients into appropriate services and maintaining an accurate database of
calls received in the SHO.
6. To research and make initial contact with venues, explain the NCSP and obtain permission
to attend the venue and offer Chlamydia screening. Planning events in advance and working
to creating repeat events in the outreach calendar
7. To work towards targets set out in contracts of the corresponding boroughs such as the
number of sporting events visited per month or the percentage of schools that have allowed
us access to students.
8. Occasionally you may be required to attend meetings with site managers to explain the
service more fully to create an opportunities to test young people and nurture relationships.
Education, training and communication
1. Liaise with other Metro Centre staff and volunteers, including Chlamydia Outreach staff, to
ensure that SHO activities are aligned with relevant sexual health outreach activities.
2. To have a working knowledge of services relating to Sexual Health and Contraception in
Greenwich borough and keep up to date with service provision in the borough.
3. Sound knowledge of sexual health and STI’s and their effects on young people.

4. A working knowledge of contraception available to Greenwich residents including LARC
contraception and ability to communicate those options to clients accessing services in the
borough.
5. An understanding of issues relating to LGBTQ people and the services available to this
community in Greenwich through The Metro Centre.

10. Undergo regular supervision from the line manager and to undertake appropriate training
and staff development as agreed with the line manager

12. Undertake any other appropriate duties as requested by the Manager. If these duties are
extensive and of a higher job description scale, the terms and conditions of the post may be
varied in negotiation with your line manager
