English Bridge Union (‘EBUScore’) Scoring Programs Scoring a Multi-Section Event with EBUScore Pairs Scorer Software Prepared by Alan Dean Revised November 2015 (matches EBUScore Pairs Scorer version 1.1.1) (This page is intentionally blank for double-sided printing) Keighley Bridge Club Scoring a Multi-Section Event with EBUScore Pairs Scorer Software These instructions are guidance for the scoring of two separate events (or more) played in a single session (e.g. KBC Ladies and Men’s Pairs) using Bridgemates with one computer and one Bridgemate Server. Please refer to KBC Pairs scoring instructions for more detailed information. 1. Open EBUScore Pairs scoring software. 2. Create a new event for the first of the two events: a. Ensure that the Section name will be different from the other events (e.g. SectA) to avoid confusion in identifying the different sections b. Import the deal c. Select the movement d. Exit this event back to the Event History screen 3. Repeat (2) above to create the second event and select movement, and exit to the Event History screen. 4. In the Event History screen, click both the events created in (2) and (3) above to highlight them, and then click the “Merge Sections” button at the bottom of the screen. You will be asked to confirm the merge – click OK and a single ‘Multi’ event will be created. 5. Retrieve the ‘Multi’ event. The name will be the same as the first event created, so change the Event Name on the Club/Event Details page to something different e.g. “Ladies + Men’s Multi”, to make it more readily identifiable. Click the ‘Scoring’ tab at the top of the screen and tick the box against “In Section” Scoring at the bottom left of the screen. 6. Click OK button to return to the Event Menu screen and select ‘Bridgemate Scoring’. The Bridgemate Scoring screen will be displayed showing both (or all) the merged sections. 7. Click ‘Create Database’ 8. Click ‘Launch BCS’ and the Bridgemate Control Software (BCS) will start as normal. 9. IMPORTANT: - Ensure that the players are informed of their section letter (A,B,C...) and that the correct sections and table numbers are entered on the Bridgemates. 10. Names/EBU numbers are entered on the Bridgemates as normal. 11. Play and Bridgemate scoring proceeds as normal for a single session. 12. If any changes or amendments or adjustments have to be made, ensure that you have selected the correct section from the pull-down box in the appropriate screens. 13. After play has finished, it is best to produce reports by exiting the Multi event and retrieving the separate events. This ensures that the correct headings are displayed on the sheets. ********************************** The following is the relevant extract from the original JSS Scoring Software Reference Manual for comparative information: A ‘Scorer Control’ Event manages an event. In single session one section events, the created Event is the ‘Scorer Control’ Event. In MultiSection or MultiSession Events, the combined Events form the ‘Scorer Control’ Event. You should create events logically with Session 1 Sections listed, then Session 2 Sections listed etc. Individual, Pairs & Teams and single section/session Swiss Pairs component events may act as ‘Scorer Control’ Event, however other Swiss Pairs, Swiss Teams need a separate ‘Scorer Control’ Event. You should set Multi Events in advance using ‘Merge Sections’ or ‘Combine Sessions’ to create the Scorer Control Event. For example with a multisection of 3 Mixed Pairs and 2 independent Open Pairs: Event 1 2 3 4 5 Description Mixed Pairs Section Red Mixed Pairs Section Green Mixed Pairs Section White Open Pairs Section Blue Open Pairs Section Yellow Merge Mixed Pairs Events 1,2,3 into a MultiSection Event 6 to get the overall results. The two Open Pairs Events 4 & 5 may be scored separately as normal. Multisection Events Reports The scoring can be as a real Multisection event (same boards played in both sections so matchpointed over both sections) or as two independent sections (possibly which you have just combined them to get the Bridgemate results using the same server). If it is a Multisection event, use the merged multisection event report. Ensure the 'InSection" Scoring box in the Event Details is NOT ticked. If it is two independent events, then you exit from the Multisection Event, and view the reports from the two events separately. Alternatively, ticking the "InSection" Scoring box in the Multisection Event Details shows the independent event results. Alan Dean November 2015
