ARE You Registered in the PARISH?
Please do not take for granted that you are registered in
the Parish just because you attend Mass here. If we have
no record of your parish membership, it could be quite
embarrassing to us, to you or your family, when someone
wishes to make wedding plans, have a baby baptized, or
if you have been asked to act as a sponsor for Baptism
etc. Please come to the office and fill out a registration
form. Kindly help us to keep records updated.
World Mission Sunday ( Oct.23rd, 2011)
“As the Father has sent me, so I send you” (Jn 20:21)
Dear Brothers and Sisters, The most precious service that the
Church can render to humanity and to every individual seeking
profound purpose for living is to bring the Gospel proclamation to
all with “the enthusiasm of the very first Christians”. This same
invitation to proclaim re-echoes every year in the celebration of
World Mission Day. In fact, the ceaseless proclamation of the
Gospel also revitalizes the fervent, apostolic spirit of the Church.
Faith, when it is given to others, is strengthened.

(by Saint Maximus the Confessor )
The lamp set upon the lamp stand is Jesus Christ, the
true light from the Father, the light that enlightens
every one who comes into the world. In taking our own
flesh he has become, and is rightly called, a lamp, for he
is the connatural wisdom and word of the Father. He is
proclaimed in the Church of God in accordance with
orthodox faith, and he is lifted up and resplendent
among the nations through the lives of those who live
virtuously in observance of the commandments. So he
gives light to all in the house (that is, in this world), just
as he himself, God the Word, says: No one lights a lamp
and puts it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives
light to all in the house. Clearly he is calling himself the
lamp, he who was by nature God, and became flesh
according to God’s saving purpose. I think the great
David understood this when he spoke of the Lord as a
lamp, saying: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light
to my path. For God delivers us from the darkness of
ignorance and sin, and hence he is greeted as a lamp in
Scripture. Lamp-like indeed, he alone dispelled the
gloom of ignorance and the darkness of evil and became
the way of salvation for all. Through virtue and
knowledge, he leads to the Father those who are
resolved to walk by him, who is the way of
righteousness, in obedience to the divine
commandments. He has designated holy Church the
lamp stand, over which the word of God sheds light
through preaching, and illumines with the rays of truth
whoever is in this house which is the world, and fills the
minds of all with divine knowledge.
This word is most unwilling to be kept under a bushel; it
wills to be set in a high place, upon the sublime beauty
of the Church. For while the word was hidden under the
bushel, that is, under the letter of the law, it deprived all
of eternal light. For then it could not give spiritual
contemplation to people striving to strip themselves of a
sensuality that is illusory, capable only of deceit, and
able to perceive only decadent bodies like their own. But
the word wills to be set upon a lamp stand, the Church,
where rational worship is offered in the spirit, that it
may enlighten all. For the letter, when it is not
spiritually understood, bears a carnal sense only, which
restricts its expression and does not allow the real force
of what is written to reach the hearer’s mind.
Let us, then, not light the lamp by contemplation and
action, only to put it under a bushel–that lamp, I
mean, which is the enlightening word of knowledge–
lest we be condemned for restricting by the letter the
incomprehensible power of wisdom. Rather let us
place it upon the lamps to and of holy Church, on the
heights of true contemplation, where it may kindle for
all humanity the light of divine teaching.

More about the New English Missal
(from http://old.usccb.org/romanmissal/resources-bulletins)
What difference will these changes make in my
parish?
Some of the differences will be obvious immediately. We
will have to learn new musical settings for the various parts
of the Mass. We will learn new words for common prayers,
such as the Creed. Those of us who began saying the Mass
prayers by heart long ago will need to rely on printed texts
again, at least for a while. In the early months of the
transition, we may find it more challenging to pray with one
voice as people adjust to the new texts and gradually
commit them to their hearts. But these surface differences
will give way to deeper and more significant changes. If we
use the time of preparation well, we will make the changes
with a deeper understanding of the Liturgy and a renewed
reverence for and appreciation of the Mass. We will hear the
prayers with new ears and with new hearts. Our Liturgy will
be filled with new life and new spirit as we celebrate the
Paschal Mystery of Christ made present for us.
Where can I turn for help in understanding these changes?
The first stop for catechesis and formation regarding these
changes is your parish and diocese. All the faithful are
encouraged to take advantage of parish efforts. You can
attend catechetical sessions, read articles in the parish
bulletin or the diocesan newspaper, listen closely to homilies
that help explain the changes, and come early to Mass to
practice new musical settings for the prayers. In addition,
many dioceses, schools and retreat centers will offer
programs to help people understand and appreciate the new
translation. You can take advantage of these programs
where possible.
The official Web site for the third edition of the Roman
Missal is found at www.cccb.ca; romanmissal.ca. A
variety of resources will be posted that may help you.
Catholic publishers and national organizations will publish
many resources, in print and online, to help you negotiate
this time of change. Check out also Branches Catholic
bookstore (905 685 7000) to see what is available.
What if I don’t like the new translation?
For most people, the unfamiliar is always uncomfortable, at
least at first. The more familiar the old is, the more
challenging it may be to accept and embrace the new. It is
completely normal to feel uncomfortable as you begin
studying and reading the new texts. Taking steps to become
more familiar with the texts can help a great deal. At the
same time, be open to the possibility that you will find
things to appreciate in the rich language of the new
texts .Taking the time to learn more about your faith,
including the Mass and Scripture, can help you appreciate
the new texts more fully. Finally, you can take your
concerns to God in prayer. Pray for a deeper understanding
of the meaning of these texts an for an open heart to grow
in communion with the Church. (to be continued)
