Several folks have asked me to say something about our
national political landscape, and I’m guessing that an equally
large number of you have wished that I would remain silent.
So I’m wading into something that I know can quickly get me
into hot water. However, I do believe that I have something to
say, and ask that you simply consider the following thoughts.
•
•
•
•
•
•
I do not believe that God is a Republican or a Democrat. I
believe that God has a different agenda from either of the
political parties. God’s agenda includes justice, kindness,
and a humble walk with Him.
I believe that you and I, as citizens of this great nation, are
obligated to study the issues and the candidates, and make
the best decisions we can. I do not believe that not voting
is a viable option for us. The way we influence government
most powerfully is when we vote.
I believe that God expects us to pray for our elected
leaders. I pray for them often. I pray for leaders from both
parties. When they do good, we fare well.
I make my views known to our leaders. I write my
Congressman, my Senators, and my President, perhaps not
as often as I should, but they at least know I’m watching
and listening.
I don't push my political views from the pulpit. You
deserve better than that from your pastor. I have
conservatives and liberals and moderates and progressives
in my congregation. I value all of you.
We can all get along. It's part of being followers of Jesus.
There's a higher allegiance for each of us.
I’ll see you Sunday. What we do here matters, even more than
the current political landscape. What we do here matters for
eternity.

Tribute to Mother - Peggy Hurt, 6/18/23-1/14/16
A year ago, Central lost their oldest member, a member for 47 years.
She kept the nursery about 30 years. She loved watching the children grow-up.
She and my dad (Larry) worked with the MYF and young adults for several years.
I’m sure they influenced many people we may never know about. She loved her church and
her church family, and she always looked forward to the Sundays she was able to go.
Some people called her Ma Peggy, I simply called her Mother. She was always there for me; making doll
clothes or just baking cookies, always taking time to make me a better person. Thank you, Central, her
church family, for letting her share her life with you. Central lost Peggy Hurt, I lost my mother. I miss her.
Her daughter, Fran.
