Could this be the most important Christmas Card you`ll send

Could this be the most
important Christmas
Card you’ll send this year?
“If we see Christmas as exclusively about children, we could fail to see that
God expects that the winter of our lives can be the most fruitful” John Bell of Iona
For many of us, exchanging cards with family and friends is an important part of the build
up to Christmas. But for some older people, Christmas can be a sad time of year, as the
number of cards they send and receive gets less. At Methodist Homes (MHA) we strive
to ensure the older people in our care are remembered and feel part of the larger family,
which includes other residents and scheme members, relatives, staff and volunteers.
Will your Church family share the joy of Christmas with
MHA residents and Live at Home scheme members by
each writing just one extra Christmas Card?
We can provide free Christmas cards for church members
to write their own messages of goodwill and friendship and
children’s cards to colour in. Of course, you can use your own
cards. We will then pass them on to all our services to share.
Please call 01332 296200 and ask for Lesley France or
email [email protected] to get your Christmas
Friendship pack, or complete and post this order form.
Our church would like to share the joy of Christmas and support MHA’s Christmas
Friendship Appeal. Please send us the instructions with:
Number of Christmas Cards required
(number of Christmas cards) &
(number of children’s activity cards)
or we will use our own cards
please tick.

A Christmas gift
of friendship
Thank you to all who have joined our past appeals. It is this kind
of support and connection with the Church which helps to make
MHA special – here are two of the responses from last year.
“We always tell residents they are not alone at Christmas. We give the cards
to residents with a smile and tell them a little bit about how the people who
wrote them are thinking of them. Some of them have no family, or their
families are very distant. The cards make residents very happy at Christmas.”
Martin Roberts, Chaplain of Horfield Lodge in Bristol
‘It’s wonderful that somebody should care enough to send me a card. I don’t usually have cards now.
It’s made this Christmas special for me!’ Resident, Bridge Court in Wolverhampton
It is through the generosity of our supporters that we can offer additional support and alternative therapies
free of charge; services such as chaplaincy, music therapy and Live at Home community services that help
to make life better for older people. The Christmas Friendship Appeal will also provide an opportunity for
church members to make a donation to support our vital work for older people. However, we are aware
just how much the churches give throughout the year, so if your members prefer to just send a Christmas
greeting, that is very much appreciated.
A Christmas Prayer
Loving Father,
As we prepare, once again,
to celebrate the birth of your son in Bethlehem,
Make us ready to receive Him in our hearts and our homes,
that He may dwell with us for ever.
As we hear that familiar story once again,
may we be inspired by your gift of love
and be ready to respond with lives of joyful service
to the honour and glory of your name.
Amen.
