NATIONAL GOAT EXPO SHOW RULES
The NGE board and all show superintendents reserve the right to interpret these rules,
settle and determine all matters, questions and differences arising from or connected to the
National Goat Expo. Any exhibitor who violates the rules will forfeit all privileges and be
subject to penalties expulsion from the show and premises.
All Iowa State Fairground rules will also apply to exhibitors, vendors, committee members,
as well as board members
There are pens located in the sheep barn and swine barn. There are 451 pens in the sheep
barn and 1206 pens in the swine barn, and 200 pens in the south side of the swine barn
with wire pens. There are 6 different show rings: 2 in the swine barn, 1 in the sheep barn,
and 2 in the covered arena, and 1 in the south side of the swine barn where the wire pens
are located. These rings will be used daily, except the covered arena. There will be
accessible wash areas for those needing to wash goats.
Hay will not be sold on the premise, so please bring the amount of hay that will be needed
for your goats. Clean feed and water pans is a must, if they are not clean you will be asked
to buy some from the goat supply vendors or get them washed and disinfected.
Camping is available on the fairgrounds in the camping locations, but livestock is not
allowed at the trailers while camping. Please see the website or Iowa State Fairgrounds
website for further information pertaining to camping.
These showing events are for all goats registered with their specific association in
which they will be showing, except for those breeders, 4Hers and FFAers that will be
only showing in the 4H and FFA shows. No registration papers are needed for the 4H
shows. All other shows and sanctioned events, require registration papers to show
your goats and all tattoos must match the registration papers. For those associations
that have unregistered classes such as Pygmy, International BGA, and some others,
will require a scrapie tag, including those 4H and FFA animals. There is NO limit to the
amount of animals an exhibitor may enter in any of the shows. All Registration certificates
at check-in must be the originals, no copies will be accepted. If showing in commercial goat
shows or non-registered grade shows, a scrapie tag is required and must be in the ears of
the goats, they will also need to have health papers noting these tag number, these will be
checked.

CHECK- IN OF ALL GOATS
Check in for goats can begin as early as Saturday October 6, 2012 for the Association
shows. All Committee and BOD members can have goats starting to show up as early as
3pm on Friday October 5, 2012. All goats will need to be checked in by 7pm and no later
than 10pm with notice of being later than 7pm, the night before they show. If the exhibitor
is running late and will not be there by 7pm a phone call is needed with all of the
information for the exhibitor and goats being shown, so that the goats will be entered to be
shown in their sanctioned events and not scratched. Any goats that arrive after 10pm will
have to stay in the trailers until the next morning to be checked in, but a phone call the
night before is needed so that the goat is not scratched from the show. Please call 515-4026124.
CHECK-OUT OF ALL GOATS
Goats will be allowed to leave after their breed association event is completed and all is
done for that breed/show for the day. If needing to leave sooner, it will need to be arranged
with an NGE staff member. After all showing is complete with all breeds for the day those
goats may be taken out of the fairgrounds and allowed to head home.
NUMBER OF GOATS PER PEN
6
National Goat Expo 2012
Depending on the size of goats, breeders will only be allowed to have two to four goats per
pen. If showing four full grown Boers for example, breeders might have to have two pens
depending on the actual size and the pen location if bringing 3 animals. Nigerians will be
allowed to have up to 4-5 full size animals in the pens. There will be two barns in which
the goats will be housed for the event. The first barn is the sheep barn containing 451
stalls/pens. The other barn being used will be the swine barn, which contains 1206
stalls/pens and the south side of the swine barn has 200 pens/stalls. Bedding for goats will
be provided on site for purchased in the form of shavings at the NGE. Straw can be used as
bedding in the Fiber Goat Pens, we ask that you please bring your own as we will not have a
vendor to sell the straw there. Feed and water pans must be clean when entering and must
remain clean during the course of the week. Breeders must keep an eye on their goats
throughout the day, the National Goat Expo Association will not be held responsible for
goats getting loose and running through the fairgrounds or any other issue that can arise
with the goats getting sick, hurt, or lost. Food and water must not be withheld from any of
the goats during the day or night. Cost per pen per day will be $13.00 per pen for the week.
All standard dairy goats will be in one location, Miniature dairy goats including Nigerians in
another area, Miniature Silky Fainting goats in another area of the barn, and Pygmy Goats
will be in this barn in another location. Boers and other meat goats will be in Sheep barn.
Some dairy and miniature breeders also have boers and those as long as they are well
mannered will be kept with their dairy goats or miniatures in the swine barn. There will be
bucks at the NGE and they will stay with their breeds and either Standard size of miniature
area/locations. If breeders need to have Llama pens put up and placed for their bucks this
will need to be noted on the entry form and those will be at $25 per pen as we have to rent
them and set them up specifically for whoever will need them. Remember if you have bucks
that cannot be handled then please be courteous to others and leave them at home. If you
have bucks that are jumpers or are mean and cannot be handled please leave them at
home. The NGE will not be responsible for any goats getting loose or jumping gates/stalls
and breeding other does. That is the responsibility of the buck owner to take care of these
things if they should happen.
