CARRYING OUT OUR CULTURAL CREED
MARCH 2017
COMMUNITY REPORT
WE BELIEVE
The common thread of the March 2017 Community
The Board, staff, and volunteer teams will work
collaboratively and creatively to achieve excellence
in consistently carrying out its mission. It is essential that
our Board of Directors and staff are a diverse group of
individuals who are supportive, actively engaged,
open-minded, visionary and vital to the achievements
of Wellspring offering guidance and direction
toward the future.
Report is the nature of the culture of Wellspring.
In October 2015, under the leadership of consultant
Dr. Dave Johnson, we approved a Cultural Creed that
is a guide for the present and future regarding our
relationships with those we serve in the Fort Wayne
community. The very heart of our culture is the
respect and dignity we offer to our participants.
In 2016 we worked to implement the Cultural Creed in
our day to day operations – i.e., staff evaluations and

by the activity of our free clothing bank, and our
continued response to emergency needs of families
by our Food Bank.
Outside evaluations of our direct service programs
continue to play an important role. The most recent
one was for our Food Bank done by Purdue University’s
Department of Nutrition. Recommendations from that
assessment are being implemented resulting in the
distribution of more fresh fruits and vegetables and

Wellspring Shoppe is
Filling a Community Need
The Wellspring Shoppe, our free clothing bank,
has become a great resource for the Fort Wayne
community. Local agencies, food banks and
congregations are actively referring clients to the
Shoppe as there is a great need for clothing and
household items for many in our community. Service
in the Shoppe is based on income and clients can
come to shop once every 90 days.
In response to a 60% increase in appointments for
the Shoppe, we expanded to a third weekly service
day. We have also added on a 640 square foot
storage area in response to our growth.
Parent Club Makes a
Fresh Start
This fall, the Parent Club embarked on a journey
to better align the program with Wellspring’s
mission. The group decided to change its name to
Wellspringers to represent the spirit of those involved
and better represent the new phase of their lives.
They have already begun participating monthly in
joint activities with the Older Adult Program including
nutrition classes, games, concerts and other special
programming. For its summer program, the group
will meet three times per week for six weeks to enjoy
a book club, take field trips and try new things.
We can’t wait to see the growth and service
opportunities this group takes on!
WE BELIEVE
In the importance of the
mental, physical, social and spiritual
health of the individuals we serve, and
will foster opportunities for holistic
growth for those in need.

Program Evaluation
Wellspring has made great strides in its strategic
initiative to review program performance and relevance
to our mission. In the 2014/2015 school year, the After
School Program underwent an evaluation to measure
the program’s staff, activities and outcomes against
the Indiana Afterschool State Standards. This year, the
Older Adult Program will be evaluated by an outside
source. The following evaluations took place in
2015/2016.
