Term 1 Week 10
The Sacred Paschal Triduum
The Sacred Paschal Triduum of the Passion and
Resurrection of the Lord shines forth as the high
point of the entire liturgical year. The Paschal
Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord’s
Supper, has its centre in the Easter Vigil, and closes
with Vespers (Evening Prayer) of the Sunday of the
Resurrection.
(Ref: Ordo 2015)
Today’s Gospel reading is from John 13:1-15.
To the end he showed his love for them.
It was before the festival of the Passover, and Jesus
knew that the hour had come for him to pass from
this world to the Father. He had always loved those
who were his in the world, but now he showed how
perfect his love was.
They were at supper, and the devil had already put it
into the mind of Judas Iscariot son of Simon, to
betray him. Jesus knew that the Father had put
everything into his hands, and that he had come from
God and was returning to God, and he got up from
table, removed his outer garment and, taking a towel,
wrapped it round his waist; he then poured water into
a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to
wipe them with the towel he was wearing.
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, ‘Lord, are
you going to wash my feet?’ Jesus answered, ‘At the

moment you do not know what I am doing, but later
you will understand.’ ‘Never!’ said Peter. ‘You shall
never wash my feet.’ Jesus replied, ‘If I do not wash
you, you can have nothing in common with me.’
‘Then, Lord,’ said Simon Peter, ‘not only my feet,
but my hands and my head as well!’ Jesus said, ‘No
one who has taken a bath needs washing, he is clean
all over. You too are clean, though not all of you
are.’ He knew who was going to betray him, that was
why he said, ‘though not all of you are.’
When he had washed their feet and put on his clothes
again he went back to the table. ‘Do you understand’
he said ‘what I have done to you? You call me
Master and Lord, and rightly; so I am. If I, then, the
Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you should
wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example
so that you may copy what I have done to you.’
Holy Week Events
Thank you to our year 6 students and teachers for
organizing and preparing the Holy Week
Presentations for all our classes. The students did a
wonderful job of presenting the events of Holy Week
using mimes, readings, prayers and reflective
questions.
Principal’s Thank You
As our first term for 2015 concludes, I would like to
thank all our staff and students for their hard work
throughout the term. I wish all our families a safe,
happy and holy Easter. I look forward to seeing all
our students at the start of term 2 on Monday, 20th
April.
Congratulations to the students who received

Child Protection
ALL parent volunteers MUST now have a
'Working With Children Check'. This replaces
the Prohibited Declaration Forms some parents
have completed in the past or are currently
completing. These forms are no longer valid.
We ask that ALL volunteers complete 'Working
With Children Checks' as soon as possible so that
you can continue to be a volunteer in our school.
Please go to www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au, click on
the blue square with a gold star "Start Here" and
follow the prompts.
This check is free for volunteers and lasts 5 years.
Please note the online information session through
the Catholic Education Office link is still required to
be completed every 2 years.
All parent volunteers need to have applied for
their Working with Children Check by the
beginning of Term 2.
Staff Development Day
Monday, 18th May is a
professional learning day for the
staff. The teachers will spend the
day learning how we can improve
student’s written literacy.
Please make alternative arrangements for your
children on this day.
Winter Uniforms
All students will change over to winter uniform on
the Monday, 11th May (after Mother’s Day).
School Fees
As mentioned in previous newsletters, some families
have not yet finalized their Term 1 school fees.
Our school secretaries will be contacting these
families shortly. This is a very time consuming and
lengthy process.
Please assist the office staff in this matter by
finalizing your outstanding fees immediately.
Kindergarten 2016 Enrolments
Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School is now taking
Kindergarten enrolments for 2016. Please download
the enrolment form from the school website
www.ololbhills.catholic.edu.au, complete the form
and return it to the school office with all the required
documentation.
Families will be interviewed on Saturday, May 2 by
a member of the Leadership Team.
If your child has any special physical or learning
needs please make an appointment to see Mr
Haskins for a more extensive interview.
New families may have a tour of our school on:
Thursday, April 30th, 2015 at 10.00am
Please email the school
[email protected] to inform us if you
wish to attend any one of these sessions.
Sport News
March has been a crazy month for sport with not
only our own events at school but with diocesan and
state events occurring left, right and center. Our
O.L.O.L. students have once again proven that with
a little dedication, determination and enthusiasm,
achieving your goals can be possible. In light of that,
here are a few updates of what our students have
achieved in each event:
Cross Country/ Fun Run
The weather held us off for one week but it could not
stop us the next. The Cross Country/ Fun Run was a
great success on Friday. Congratulations to the fortyone students who will now compete at Parramatta
Diocesan Cross Country next term. Remember to
train in the holidays and keep up the good work!
Thank you to all the parents who helped out on the
day. Your help is very much appreciated.
NSWCPS Swimming Trials
While the rest of the school was competing in the
OLOL Cross Country/ Fun Run, Cailley Culnane,
Benjamin Waring, Jackson Howard, Braydon
Wickman and Tiago Quintal represented MacKillop
at NSWCPS Swimming Trials. Congratulations to
Cailley who swam in the 11 Year Girls Freestyle
heat and to the boys who competed in the Junior
Boys Relay. You all did a fantastic job!
NSWPSSA State Diving Championships
Congratulations to Caitlin Ingersoll on representing
MacKillop at the NSWPSSA State Diving
Championships at Sydney Olympic Aquatic
Centre. This was Caitlin's first major competition
and she placed 9th in the State. Outstanding effort
Caitlin!
REP Sport Trials
Over the past few weeks, numerous students have
participated in trials for the chance to be selected for
representative sport in Parramatta Diocese.
Congratulations to Leah Murphy, Josh McQuaid,
Ben Esh, Finn Watkins and Maxim Bowry who
made it into the Parramatta Diocesan team in their
chosen field(s). They are now in the process to try
out for the MacKillop team. What a great
achievement and good luck for the next round!
Uniform Shop
The uniform shop will be open on Friday, 24th April
from 8.45am till 9.15am, Monday, 27th April from
8.45am till 9.15am and Tuesday, 5th May from
2.45pm till 3.15pm.
Stage Three AFL Gala Day
The boys who attended the AFL Gala day last week
played four very competitive games against schools
around the Parramatta area. For some of our boys,
this was their first competitive game, but that did not
sway them in the least. With their determination they
managed to win one game and drew in another.
Special thanks to Mr. Antivilo who helped train the
boys before the event. I think OLOL has some GWS
players in the making.
Community Spirit
One of our parents has written to the school to thank
the person who assisted her and her 7 week old baby
who were caught in the storm after our school
assembly this week. One of our mothers shared her
umbrella and helped her get to her car. She would
like to thank this kind gesture shown to her.
Stage Three Touch Footy Gala Day
OLOL sent four teams to the Parramatta Diocesan
Touch Gala Day last Friday. It was an intense day of
touch football with each team playing four or five
games throughout the day. Each team gave a
hundred and ten percent during each game and
showed great sportsmanship throughout the day.
Congratulations to White Team (Boys) and the Blue
Team (Girls) who were undefeated throughout the
entire day. Well done! A special thanks to Mrs.
Walker who helped train and coach all four teams in
the lead up to the event. Thank you as well to Mrs.
Van Eyk, Mrs. Culnane, Mr. Psaltis, Mrs. Neylan
and Mr. Haskins who helped coach the students on
the day.
Let’s make Term Two even bigger and better!
Canteen
The canteen will not be open 1st week of Term
2 and will reopen on Monday, 27th April.
Mother's Day Stall
and Raffle
The Mother’s Day
Stall will be held on
Thursday 7 May. As
with previous years,
we have some beautiful and practical gifts that will
be priced at $5, $6, $7 and $8 that your children can
buy for those special ladies in their lives: Mums,
Grannies, Aunties, etc. Volunteers are needed to
assist with the Mother’s Day Stall. Please contact
Alison Urquhart on 0407 317 231 if you can spare a
few hours on the day to help students select their
special presents.
Many thanks to families that have already made
prize donations for the
Mother's Day fundraising
raffle. If you would like to
make a donation, please bring
it into the school office. All
shapes, sizes and types of
donations will be gratefully
accepted! Raffle tickets will
go on sale after the school
holidays for $1 each. Tickets
can also be purchased on the
day of the Mother's Day Stall.
Fete 2015
Thank you to all parents who have already
volunteered their time, equipment and donations for
our fete. We will contact you shortly to confirm
information. More volunteers are still needed.
Everyone can contribute in some way - from coordinating a stall, donating items or sparing an hour
or two on the day. All ideas, help and hands are
welcome.

Last week Year One started their Easter Triduum unit ~
The Last Supper.
During this unit, we discuss the fact that in many of our
family celebrations, we share a meal with those that we
love. On Holy Thursday, before Jesus died, He shared a
special meal with his friends.
Further to this, we relate the Last Supper to the parish
community’s celebration of the Eucharist, coming together
to break bread and drink wine in memory of Jesus.
We have read about and viewed images on Palm Sunday,
The Washing of the Feet, The Last Supper, Jesus praying in
the Garden of Gethsemane and Jesus dying on the cross.
This week we have also enjoyed watching Year Six’s
presentations of the events of Holy Week.
