INCOTERMS 2010—Update
First of all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to all
our customers, overseas partners and friends.
Our 35th Year in business was celebrated in March with a company open day,
which was held at our East Midlands Cargo Terminal and our new Export Packing
Terminal in Castle Donington. Rumour has it that is was well worth the effort!
We would like to take this opportunity and thank all the clients that came along
and helped to make it such a successful day. It was really great to meet such a
wide variety of both old and new customers. Some even remembered our 20th
Anniversary back in 1997!!
The variety of cargo that we have handled throughout the year has been truly
amazing. From prestigious Gold Plated Clocks to the Middle East, Pick & Pack
contracts for some of the famous High Street Supermarket Stores, to arranging
regular import clearances of Seafood, again for some major Supermarket names
and arranging the exportation of high precision machinery to many overseas
destinations.
Our terminal at EMA has been
consistently busy throughout the
year, handling in excess of 600
teu of import sea-containers
from all corners of the world,
carrying some 3million kilos of
cargo, is just one example of
our multi-modal operation.
One of the recent loads we have export packed and shipped to Taiwan. MIES©

A.E.O. (Authorised Economic Operator) Certification
MIES International Limited was very quick to react to the introduction of AEO and very quickly decided
to embark on certification. We saw the benefits of this important “Kite Mark” and saw the importance of
being recognised by Customs as being a “Safe” operator with regards to import and export processes.
MIES were awarded AEO status in November 2009 after a very rigorous assessment program and the
certification recognises a company’s ability to work to extremely high standards of customs compliance
and customs procedures.
The aim of AEO is to help provide businesses with an internationally recognised quality mark. AEO status
will indicate safe and secure practices within the International Supply Chain and the AEO can be truly
considered as a secure and trustworthy business to deal with and a reliable trading partner.
There are a number of benefits available to the AEO. These can be:1) A reduction in customs physical & documentary checks
2) “Fast Tracking” through customs controls
3) Simplifications of certain customs data requirements
4) Simplifications for regular shipping services
5) Simplified declaration procedures for CFSP & NES
6) Recognised Status throughout the EU/EC
7) Opportunities with other countries who may well adopt similar systems
Additional benefits will be implemented when the EU Modernised Customs Controls are fully introduced.
AEO came into effect throughout the EU on 1st January 2008. It is a long and thorough process to
become approved as an AEO and even to-day, AEO has not yet been taken seriously within our
profession.
The regime is destined to become the international trade and security benchmark against which a trading
company will be judged.
AEO is a World Customs Organisation initiative and certification by HM Revenue & Customs is a
statement to the rest of the world that a company’s processes meet the EU and UK Governments
compliance requirements. In the future, not having AEO status maybe construed as an indication that a
trader does not have the ability to work to secure processes.
MIES has certainly noticed many differences in the speed and efficiency in which we can clear and
receive our inbound cargoes. This has resulted in greater efficiencies in the services that we provide to
our clients.
Our customers can be assured that their compliance responsibilities are in safe and secure hands.
