Vocabulary 500 Teacher Directions
Objective:
Teams:
Preparation:
To identify and define 500 vocabulary words from SAT tests.
Teams of 2 to 4
Divide the 500 words by team, and make each team a copy of their words.
Directions:
1.
Divide the 500 words by the number of teams in the class. Give each team a copy of their words.
2.
Instruct teams to divide their words amongst themselves in order to define them. Students should
use a pen when recording definitions (for photocopying later). Ask students to write concise
definitions. Share an example:
concise: expressing or covering much in few words
vs
concise: brief
It is much easier to remember the second definition because it is concise.
3.
After a team completes its list, photocopy the list for all of the students in the class. Instruct
students to study all 500 words prior to the SAT. You can use the vocabulary quizzes in the SAT
Free Help Area to assess their progress.
