OverviewoftheProgramRequirements MCISstudentscomplete36creditstoearntheirdegree.Theprogramisself-paced(3-12 creditspersemester).Studentscanchoosebetweenfourspecializationsandonegeneral specialization.Studentsareadmittedtothegeneralprogramandmaystaywithina specializedtrackormaycombinetrackstofocusonmultipleareasofinterest. Studentsmustcomplete15creditsofcorerequirements;and21creditsofelectives.Upto 6creditsofgraduateworkcanbetransferredinfromanotherUniversityorfromother programsatRutgers. Specializations CommunicationandMediaStudies Inthisgeneralspecializationstudentswilltakeaself-designedcourseofstudydrawing acrossanyofthespecializedMCISspecializationsaswellascoursesinotherareasofthe School.Coursesinorganizationalcommunication,mediatedcommunication,health communication,socialinteraction,knowledgemanagement,andmediastudiesareoffered throughouttheyear.Manyofthesecoursesarecross-listedwiththedoctoralprogramin theSchool. ExperientialLearning AllMCISstudentscantakeuptosixcreditsofexperientiallearningaspartoftheirelectives. Studentsarerequiredtosatisfydegreerequirementswithatleast27creditsin courseworkasidefromindividualizedexperiencessuchasindependentstudies, practicums,internshipsandthelike. 4. Fellowsmayapplynomorethan6creditsofFellowshipcredittowardssatisfying thedegreerequirements.Theywillregisterforandparticipateinupto12creditsof Fellowshipworkasanenhancementtotheirprogramexperience. 5. Studentsmayapplyuptoatotalto6creditsfromothergraduateprograms(both inside/outsideofRutgers)totheirdegreerequirementuponapprovalofthecourse bytheprogramdirector. a. TransferfromaRutgersProgram—arequesttocountacoursefroma Rutgersgraduateprogramshouldbemadepriortoenrollment.Theprogram directorwilldeterminetheappropriatenessofapplyingthecoursetothe MCISdegree.Gradesofsuchcoursesaretreatedthesameascourseswithin theMCISprogram. b.
