All vessels operating within unprotected waters of the state will require a compliant 406 MHz EPIRB when proceeding more than 2 nautical miles from the mainland shore or more than 400 metres from an island located more than 2 nautical miles from the mainland shore. You also can’t anchor or moor a vessel in any channel or fairway, unless the vessel is in distress.
