THE LION KING JR.
Under the creative
guidance of our resident artistic director, Mr. Francois
Lukawecki and our assistant directors; Ms. Carla Batista,
Ms. Bernadette Steiner, Ms. Christina De Sousa, and
Ms. Ria Marcogiannis, this year’s musical play
presentation was a roaring success! On April 19th and 21st,
our “gym-natorium” was filled to capacity with parents and
family members. Our two nights of Dinner Theatre were
sold out as well. Everyone enjoyed a catered meal, topped
up with homemade desserts, served by no other than our
extremely hard working parents of the PPO. This month’s
newsletter is not long enough to thank the army of parents
who made this year’s production possible. A BIG THANK
YOU to all! Congratulations to the entire Bancroft
community for supporting and presenting a truly
impressive Lion King Jr. Bravo! Encore!!!
A big thank you to Vertige Image for filming our
performance and making the DVD and CD recordings of our
play. DVD /CD recordings of the performance are available
for purchase. Please fill out the purchase forms that were
sent home and return them to your child’s teacher.
Our Grade 6 students, and soon
to be graduates, have taken part
in a Transition to High School
series of lessons in order to be
better prepared to meet the
challenges of the next step in their educational careers. Our
Cycle 2 students have also participated in a series of
workshops helping them to acquire better Study and
Organizational Skills. Ms. Sharon Klar and Ms. Heidi
Markel, both from Bartimaeus, have been leading their
workshops and as a complementary feature, Grade 6
parents and students were invited to a special parent
workshop with Ms. Klar on April 14th at 7:00 p.m. to help
support their children’s learned strategies.
Our annual Agenda Cover Contest has
resulted in many inspirational and talented
submissions, and 2 winners – Melina
Dussault’s drawing was chosen for the
junior agenda and Georgia Kalomiris’s
was chosen for the senior covers. Thank
you to all the students who submitted their drawings - the
choice was indeed difficult. Congratulations!
ROBOTICS
Once again, two teams of students
from Bancroft took part in the annual Junior Robotics
Competition. They spent 2 days competing in the Search
and Rescue event and we teamed up with Gardenview
Elementary School team in the mystery challenge.
Congratulations to Mr. Charles our resident Science and
Technology teacher and Robotics specialist who inspired
our students to receive honorable mention during their first
year competing. Once again a big thank you goes out to the
parents who helped along the way and who came out to
support our teams at Vanier College. I would like to
congratulate our student team; Kyan Priqueler, Salem
Baazeem. Valentin Berthier, Jonathan McLaughlin–
Roberts, Marko Nourry, Ethan Greizis, Joseph Pozdena
and Ashwin Wagner-Vanamala. The technical skills you
have acquired constructing and programming your robots,
and the people skills you acquired through teamwork,
trouble shooting, managing stressful situations and through
competition will serve you well in your future education and
in your career. You represented Bancroft proudly!
Mr. Charles’ science classes are continuing their
partnership with our community partners ‘les amies de la
montagne’. On May 6th they are participating in helping to
keep our Mount Royal Park clean. Together with Mr.
Charles and our Spiritual Community Animator, Ms.
Puynung Choy the grade 5 students will be cleaning up the
mountainside in preparation for World Environment Day.
Thank you Mr. Charles! This a great “Green” initiative that
will ensure we enjoy one of Montreal’s great heritage parks.
In addition, Mr. Charles’ cycle 3 classes are also actively
involved in their “Raise a Tree” project.
Exam Time!
We are approaching the end of our
academic year and we look forward to
planning for 2016-2017. I remind
everyone to please be mindful of the
End of Cycle Exam dates on the front
Calendar and on the website. These exams are
compulsory ministerial exams and they play an important
part in the evaluative process. Please ensure that your
children are present in school and on time!
Reno Update
Construction is proceeding on schedule! I would like to
assure parents that air quality testing throughout the
building is being regularly conducted and all results are
normal.
Have a great month everyone!
