MAY 2017 - Wm E Hay

Wm. E. Hay
Stettler Secondary
Campus
M AY 2 017
P r i n c i p a l ’ s
Our student registration process for
the fall of 2017 is now almost complete; May 3rd was the deadline for
all student registration forms to be
handed in but there are still a few
students that have not done so yet.
We will be trying our best to make
sure that all students receive the
courses that they have selected.
However, students may not get everything that they have selected. This
is usually due to the fact that there is
a scheduling conflict between courses that are only offered one time during the year. It could also be that
students were late with returning
their registration forms or a particular course may have reached maximum enrollment. I would like to
thank Mrs. Enyedy, Mrs. Lovell and
all other staff members involved in
our registration process for their time
and energy spent in making sure that
all of the meticulous details are taken care of. Our school truly appreciates all of your efforts, time and
commitment.
Please be aware that there will be no
school mail out or newsletter in September, there will be a newsletter emailed out at the end of August with
pertinent school information. You
may also check our school’s website
www.wmehay.clearview.ab.ca to
subscribe to our newsletter. Student
timetables will be available to view
and/or print from Maplewood (our
Student Information System) in August. Students requiring and class
changes may come into the school
on Tuesday August 29th or Thursday
August 31st, between 9:00 A.M. and
3:30 P.M. No timetable changes will
be made on Wednesday August 30th
due to this being a school division
wide professional day. The first day
back for grade 10,11 and 12 students
is Tuesday September 5th and our
grade 7,8 and 9 students will return
to school on Wednesday September
6th. The first day back for all students is Thursday September 7th.
M e s s a g e
Our school picture day will also be
happening on Thursday September
7th. Information from Lifetouch, our
photography company will be available on our website as well as in our
August newsletter that will be emailed out. Notifications and reminders will be sent out through our
SchoolConnects messaging system,
Remind, Facebook, Twitter, our
School Website, our daily Memo as
well as our new outdoor sign. School
calendar magnets showing important
school year events will be available
again but will not be mailed
out. They will be distributed to students to bring home at the start of the
school year as well as available in our
main office for parents to pick up.
Continuing in September 2017,
Clearview School Division will be
entering into the eleventh year of
embedded Professional Days for all
of their teaching staff. Embedded
Professional Days allows teachers in
all Clearview schools, the opportunities to work with the same grade and
subject colleagues to plan units, lessons and projects together. It also
gives teachers an opportunity to share
common assessments, evaluations,
teaching strategies, best practices and
resources within their areas of expertise. Also, next year our teachers will
again be spending time understanding
and implementing the Ministerial
Order, Curriculum Prototyping and
the Inspiring Education document.
Our staff will also be continuing their
work on Google Apps For Education
(GAFE) in our classrooms as well as
continuing with Project Based Learning, as part of the regular classroomlearning environment. We have also
taken on a new initiative with Professional Learning Communities
(PLC’s) that will be a part of our regular Professional Days. Next year’s
school learning calendar is also online on the division’s website and on
our schools’ website outlining all of

the Professional Days in which the
students will not be required to be in
school. Also continuing in September
2017, Clearview School Division and
Wm. E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus will be continuing with the refining of the delivery of our courses in a
competency (mastery) based fashion
as well as student assessment, evaluation, grading and reporting to reflect
this practice.
Wm. E. Hay Graduation is fast approaching on May 27th and students
are busy preparing for this very special and memorable day. Our Valedictorian has been announced and I
would like to congratulate Mr. Paul
DuToit on being named this year’s
valedictorian. Please remind your
graduating student that they will need
to be present at all the grad practices
for the week of May 24th to May 26th.
There will be busses transporting the
students to and from the arena for
rehearsal practices during this week
and students need to remember that
they are not allowed to transport
themselves.
As always, if you have any questions
or concerns, please feel free to call
me at 403-742-3466 or e-mail me at

Wm. E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus students are encouraged to GET LOUD for Mental Health during Mental
Health Week. Some of the activities that will happening around the school include:
FRIENDSHIP BENCHES - two benches will be painted by YCAT and the School Culture group. These benches
serve as permanent, physical, and year-round reminders to students to take a moment out of their day to sit,
breathe, and talk (or think) about their mental health and that of their friends. It’s intended to inspire peer-to-peer
conversations about mental health in order to reduce the stigma and encourage more students seek help. Simple
acts of kindness carry a lot of weight.
Hats On for Mental Health day on Wednesday, May 3. All Albertans are invited to wear a hat to raise awareness
of the importance of good mental health. Participating schools relax their hat rules and encourage students and
teachers to build understanding by wearing hats to school. We encourage everyone to talk about why we are
wearing hats today.
1 in 5 Campaign Emerald green t-shirts reading 1-in-5 across the front to visually represents how many Canadians are affected by Mental Illness. That’s 150 students in the high school that may be impacted. Thank you to
Madison Bauman for her contribution to this endeavor, and to those who sponsored the t-shirts, including the Student’s Union,Town of Stettler board members, and the CARS (Children and Adolescents being Resilient and SelfRegulating) program.
Wellness messages will also be displayed around the school and in the school Memo. In addition, students from
YCAT, grade 9 PE, and Psychology 20 will be presenting projects and information at the Wellness Fair on May 4
after school, to students at SES, Erskine School, Botha School, and Christ-King School. CARS staff from the
Clearview’s Mental Health Capacity Building Initiative will be presenting at the Wellness Fair, and visiting the grade
7 and 8 classrooms with information and activities around supporting mental wellness.
