They’ll walk through coastal old growth forest, find themselves on headlands overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and possibly have an opportunity t o walk to Short Sand beach. On Amy Hurst’s walkandtalk, the students will explore some of Oregon’s quintessential environments. Additionally, park of the drive will take place along Hwy 101 as the van drives south from Cannon Beach to the state parks. During this drive, students will experience beautiful views of one of Oregon’s most famous areas. With their field trip packets (made by Colin) and Amy Hurst’s informational hike to guide them, the students will learn about the coast’s geography, ecology, and history throughout the day. Possible topics for discussion include the differences in environment between the coast and their previous trips or the history of settlement on the Pacific Northwest coast. During the car rides, their hike with Amy Hurst, and the art project, students can ask about whatever aspects of the trip are most interesting to them. Finally, the students will be empowered during Cody’s art project. Having agency in creating a piece of artwork, even something as simple as a drawing, can have a profound impact on students. They will create a collaborative art project, led by a Passport Oregon staff member. Which organizations are we partnering with, and have we asked about discounts, cooperative promotions, and communications? Our main partnership on this trip is with Amy Hurst, a Park Ranger with Oregon State Parks. She’ll meet us at Oswald West State Park to take the students on a hike and interactive talk through the coastal rainforest. This service is free! If we have Columbia Sportswear jackets for participants by the time of this trip, we’ll be sure to thank them publicly. Additionally, Helena secured a donation from Mo’s Restaurant, the seafood chain, for lunch for the students. Each participant can receive an $8value meal, for a total donation value of $65 for the 8 participants. We can be sure to thank Mo’s Restaurant publicly for their support. Additionally, Helena is still reaching out to local cafes to secure a possible hot chocolate donation. If we’re unable to get a donation, we’ll simply purchase hot chocolate and support a local business! Helena has also confirmed that Lyra from the Cannon Beach Gazette will cover our trip. We’ll establish a dayof contact with her soon. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tHoWRetagTyM4ygaoA1s2JlDvOGK-dPih-5b1dLTGsY/edit 3/3
