The Renovat
ion.
Bringing the house back to life.
Stoneley Woods is an original 1930s manor house,
and has just undergone a multi-million pound, three
year renovation to restore it to its full glory.
The refurbishment of the House included replacing
the entire roof and repairing and reglazing over
80 original Burmese teak windows. The house was
also fully insulated and fitted with a new biomass
heating system, to ensure it is always cosy and warm,
and without the drafts so often associated with
traditional country houses! The House was also
completely re-plastered, re-decorated, re-wired and
fully re-plumbed, including the installation of nine new
bathroom suites. Wi-Fi, flat screen televisions, Sky TV,
Bose sound systems and MP3 adaptors are throughout,
bringing modern conveniences to a traditional setting.
The gardens were original designed by Percy Cane,
a high profile garden designer who also designed
some of country’s finest gardens. They have also been
restored to the original designs, to frame the house
against the backdrop of the majestic wilderness of the
moors. The gardens combine elegant water features
and foliage that changes throughout the year, always
remaining a beautiful retreat.
Forefront in the aims of the restoration has been
maintaining a high standard of quality whilst preserving
the original 1930s feel of the building and grounds.

As well as making sure the building itself
was renovated to the highest standards, we
wanted to ensure that the furniture and soft
furnishings are of the highest quality. So we
have hand selected everything from the
curtains and sofas, down to the small details.
We have worked with some of the finest
craftsmen and brands, including Colefax
and Fowler, Jean Munro, Gainsborough Silk
Weaving, Zoffany, and Pierre Frey, to give a
result that is true to the House’s design, and
providing you with the luxury of a sumptuous
country house.

Discovery Days.
Shooting at Stoneley Woods Manor
Stoneley Woods makes the ideal shooting lodge, and
is fully equipped to accommodate the keenest of
country sportsmen.
It is located on the private Pennyholme Estate, which
includes one of the country’s largest and best grouse
moors. The Moor, Bransdale, is a 16,000 acre moor,
actively managed to maintain the ideal habitat for
wild grouse. There is also a high quality partridge and
pheasant shoot on the Estate.
The House is designed to cater for the specific needs
of a shooting party. There is a designated boot room,
complete with gun cabinets, and a drying room to use
after a long day out on the moors.
Because Pennyholme is a private estate, when you go
for a day’s shooting from Stoneley Woods you will have a
uniquely exciting, challenging and exclusive experience.
The Grouse season begins on 12th August, or
the ‘Glorious Twelfth’, and stretches until
December. Because the birds can fly at speeds
of up to 80mph, it takes a high degree of skill to
shoot them. They are one of the most sought
after game birds, and command a high price.
They are also delicious to eat, and one of the best
game meats available in the British Isles. Drive
grouse hunting can be thought of as a pinnacle
of game shooting throughout the world.
