Originally the site of a pirate’s castle, Gavnø became a convent in 1398. Open-air events are held year-round. Egeskov Castle is not only one of Denmark’s best preserved 16th century moat castles, it is also one of the most whimsical – and fun! Nestled on an island next to one of Denmark’s most picturesque villages with thatched cottages, the 350-year-old Valdemar Castle features a hunting museum, epoch interiors and open-air events. The castle features a renaissance chapel and hosts an annual ring jousting tournament, one of Denmark’s largest such festivals. An aristocratic family residence since 1559, Rosenholm Castle welcomes visitors to its estate rose gardens and on guided tours of its original Baroque interiors. The Renaissance castle is also the venue of private functions and conferences. The 500-year-old medieval castle is today a living museum with events held year-round, including the annual medieval Bishop’s Market.
